Looking at the 12VoltSolutions remote start add-on. It's seems convenient, butbis it useful? Is it reliable?

My 2020 RAM 3500 Tradesman doesn't have that feature. And I wasn't spending $10,000 to get it.

For those with remote start, do you use it often? Do you find it useful? Or is it something you don't nuse after the new wears off?

I had an ''03 2500 and '05 3500, both Cummins, and loved the remote start. Used it to warm up/cool off the truck and keep the dog warm or cool. But idling seems to be an issue with later diesels and with the 1500 Limited I have now, so I don't use it nearly as much. Others users can probably tell you the concerns about idling; my sales rep warned me off before he retired.

I use mine all the time, I'll hit the remote start as I'm headed into the garage or walking up in the parking lot to let the vehicle start getting the fluids moving and the heat/defrost or cooling going. Unless it's super cold out I usually don't remote start the truck and let it idle for a long time.

I have it and I use it all the time. I wouldn't have paid $10k more for it, but I have paid almost $500 for it on previous vehicles. It's nice to have it but then again, I've owned almost 50 vehicles in my life, and only 4 of them have had remote start. And my Audi doesn't have it, so it's not something I can't live without. It's something you'll have to decide for yourself whether or not it's worth having.

I have remote start on the last couple of trucks and I hardly use it. Which is to say I’ll start the truck as I’m walking up to it in hot weather just because I can and it gives the ac a few seconds head start on purging the hot air. I don’t start cold vehicles and warm them idling because that’s a lot of wear. I start up and drive away as soon as the idle settles down.

I particularly wouldn’t idle a modern diesel because it plays hell with the DPF. Even on older diesels it can cause cylinder washdown and oil dilution. It’s sort of OK if there’s a high idle function. I don’t know if the current Rams enable that.

I have never owned a vehicle with remote start, never needed it, not wished I had it.

That 12v solutions kit uses the factory fob, and will work exactly like the factory remote start with the same range. Your truck already has the components for remote start (at least, all the 2019+ HDs I’ve seen so far have). All you need to do is verify that there is a connector plugged into your hood latch (hard to see on the 2019+ without looking under the cover on top of the radiator). If it’s there, you just need to buy the fob that has the remote start button, and have the dealer program it. If you want to kill two birds with one stone for the same price, buy the fob that has the remote start button AND the tailgate release button, and have them program it for remote start AND remote tailgate release all at once. https://www.uhs-hardware.com/produc...MIjr3p3pCT6gIVQb7ACh0zEAkfEAQYAiABEgI1UvD_BwE

Living in az or any cold climate it is awesome. To either warm up truck or cool inside down. Again here in az 115 degrees it is very handy to have.

So if they program the new FOB, does that then activate the remote start feature? Or is there another code (codes?) I need to get them to activate. And I see a switch on the hood latch that is wired intothe harness.

I have it. It came as a factory feature on my truck and I'm so glad I have it. Very useful here with our hot summers. Also great in the winter because it starts the truck, turns on the heated seats and heated steering wheel. Great feature.

Don’t need it but glad you have it when you need it, especially when cold!

I'm in Canada, _40 winter temps or colder at times. I won't bring a vehicle home that doesn't have remote start. Should be standard equipment. It's even great on hot days, nice cool truck sure beats 2million degrees inside after a long day at work.

Love my remote start, wouldn’t have a vehicle without it. I crank mine up and let it warm up every morning before I leave for work. as far as this doing damage I highly doubt it. I’d rather have a good warmed up engine when I get on the highway than a cold one. But then again I’m old school.

also, on mine which is a 19 model, it is set to cut off after 5-10 minutes if no one has entered the vehicle as a safety feature. Also, heats the steering wheel and seats or turns the AC on and ventilated seats depending on the weather.

They need to add sales code XBM for remote start. JKR is for remote tailgate release.

I never had it until it came with my Hellcat and GC Trailhawk. Now I have it in my new Power Wagon. I use it all the time. If you vehicle is garage kept it's not really that big of deal, but if it's kept outside it's worth every penny. It's nice to get into a warm truck in the middle of winter. I usually start mine when i'm fixing my coffee. I'm spoiled now! Love the heated steering wheels and seats too!

In my 2017 ram 1500 express I was able to use alfaobd to enable remote start through the factory settings and just replace my key rubber insert with a remote start key insert. Cost me all of 20$ as I already had alfaobd and the Bluetooth dongle to program other features as well. Just need to find out if your rf hub is capable of remote start and have it programmed or have the factory remote start add on installed. For the 4th gens it’s cheap. Like 175$ for the rf hub and keys not including labor and programming. Not sure on 5th gens. I use remote start almost every time I drive. I live in Florida and it’s to hot to just jump in the truck. I can even roll my windows down from my key fob

Florida heat... remote start to get the AC turning. One of the most useful options I have ever had on a vehicle.
