So I had the dealer install OEM remote start the other day on my 2015 express.

To use it, I have to press the lock button 3 times.

it seems that certain things effect it though not sure if that's normal?

For one, if a door is open the truck won't start. And sometimes it seems like it shuts off on its own. My jeep did this but only after 15 minutes?

I don't think that's a OEM remote start if you have to press the lock button three times to start it. Did you get new FOBs with the remote start???

Should have a button like the one in this picture with the arrow and "x2" on it.

dont think they installed OEM remote start... The oem kit includes 2 new key fobs with dedicated remote start buttons on them that you press twice.

So if my "we owe you" slip from when I bought the truck only says "remote start" with no specifics, I'm screwed on that one I'm guessing?

When I purchased the truck I asked them how much is OEM remote start. They said $600. I said I need you to include that in the deal and they agreed...

I have to check for sure what the we owe slip says but I believe it just says remote start.

As said you didn't get an OEM remote start. They installed an aftermarket kit in your truck.

For the remote start to work, all doors must be closed. If a door is open it will cancel the start procedure. Also if you try to remote start with another key in the ignition, it won't start.

From default the starters have a 15 minute runtime, if it's shutting down before that, the park lights should flash a number of times after it turns off. The number of flashes will tell you why it shut down.

If they dinged you 600 bucks for that you got *****. 350 tops including the cost of dealership labour. ( it's 75-80/hr here I think )

I didn't pay anything. I asked them to throw it in.

Well, if they agreed to give you remote start for no extra charge, they technically did that. From their end, remote start is probably cheaper and easier with an aftermarket kit on a 2015. The Mopar kit has them install a hood switch, a new RF hub, and an antenna for the remote start signal. Then they have to program the new keys.

For the aftermarket, it's pretty much a plug and play breakout harness. Probably a 150-200 dollar kit.

Those are safety features, if it is an aftermarket kit then some features can be removed. I installed one in my truck and I figured out that engine checking was turned on for voltage so when I opened my doors and the dome light came on, voltage changed and the truck would shut down, I changed that to tach and now I dont have that issue anymore.

Don't know if it really matters, but if my fuel light comes on during a remote start warm up, the truck shuts itself off. Thanks for not running out of gas in my driveway, but now my truck is cold as sh*t still....real world problems

FWIW.....

After I purchased my truck, I found out that it had a remote start similar to what the OP is talking about. My Wife told me the salesman had informed me it was there but I must not have heard him. I went in for an oil change at my local dealer (not the dealer I had purchased the truck from and during that, they installed some updates to the truck, including the RFH update. After getting the truck back, I found that there were random errors (remote start would not work, doors would not lock/unlock with the keyfob and the TPMS light would come on even though the EVIC showed that the air pressure in all 4 tires was exactly what it was supposed to be). I took the truck back to that dealer and was told the problems were originating in the remote start unit and were not covered by the factory or the extended warranty I had on the truck.

After talking with them some more, I was told to talk to the selling dealership. The selling dealership had me bring the truck in and they investigated the issue. The conclusion came back that the update to the RFH had created a problem with the aftermarket remote start unit and now the truck was getting "strange" signals that it could not interpret. After a few phone calls back and forth, it was decided that the selling dealer would remove the aftermarket remote start and replace it with an OEM unit based on the fact that I purchased a CPO unit and everything on it was supposed to be covered by both the factory warranty and the additional extended warranty.

Bottom line, I would make them remove the aftermarket unit and install the OEM unit if that is what they had agreed to at the time of purchase. Otherwise, you will have them telling you that the warranty on your truck does not cover the aftermarket add on when things go wrong.

Sounds like he got a DBall remote(plug and play).I've had one for a 1 1/2 years and no issues. The reason I used it is that it can be removed in about 5 min if I have to take it for warr. issues that they could try and blame it for.The factory one was going to cost me $300 plus probably a hundred at the dealer to activate it after I installed it.The factory remote is a bit of a job to install.New hood latch ,remove LR seat and a fair bit of trim removal.

my aftermarket has the hood switch, antenna and i believe, the hub.it also shuts off if i touch the brakes before putting in the key and won't start if anything is open.

If you would like to get rid of that trash "OEM" one, i have a Viper Remote Start and it works great. Comes with its own keyfob that has a LCD screen, works from over a mile away and through brick walls, and battery lasts about a month, then its recharchable. The full kit is like $360 and you can easily install it yourself :)

So I have problems now too with the one they put in.

Sometimes if I open the back seat door, it shuts off.

And often times when I get in, put the truck in drive or reverse the truck instantly stalls out and I have to restart it.

So pissed.

I already called them insisting this wasn't the factory unit they assured me it's a mopar module. Where would the module itself be so I can look for myself?

If you got new fobs then its an OEM unit. No new fobs then its aftermarket.

If a dealer installed it, it is probably not that clean. Look for a black box about 3 inches by 2inches somewhere under the driver side dash, also look for wires that do not look factory. (Exposed wires, wrapped in eletrical tape, if they are fancy they might have used Tesa Tape but I doubt it) If you can't find the box but see odd wires, follow those.

This is all you need to know. You absolutely, positively do not have the Mopar kit if it's 3x lock and not a dedicated button on the fob.

I put the dball in my '16. There must be a timer or something that will shut the truck off if any door is opened. If I start it, let it run for 5 minutes with the doors unlocked, any door will shut it down. If I lock the door, then unlock it right away, it stays running when the doors are opened. I assume this is a 'feature' with the truck.

Like stated above its a module (dball, idatalink, fortin) type aftermarket kit. They probably did that since they are "giving" it to you since they are cheaper than an actual factory unit.

As for the issues you are having it sounds like it may have the wrong firmware on it, if this is the case it has to be brought back to the place that actually did the install and re-programmed via a computer

You can most likely bring the truck to any car shop that does remote starts and tell them the issues you are facing and see what programming can be done. Programming is just a matter of removing the module and plugging it into a computer via a special data cable for that module (if it is just a module which is should be) if it is a whole RS brain than most programming can be done inside the car with the valet switch.
