My new 2014 1500 Sport didnt come with hte remote start option. Went to the dealer to have it installed. "No problem, we will order the parts, 1 week"
I went ahead and made an appointment to have it installed.
When I get there they tell me parts are back ordered until Aug 1, 2014!
Can that really be possible?
Other options?
Suggestions?

check out a mopar site, there is a mopar remote start that is suppose to be plug n play once the dealer flashes your PCM, even comes with extra keys. There is also another that is plug and play and uses your existing key fobs lock button x3. Check out the DIY section for more info on that.

They are correct. You should wait you will get a factory Morpar unit which includes all safty features, Such as new hood latch so it wont start with the hood up, It wont start if a check engine light is on or even if your too low on fuel. I had to wait and it was worth it.
I think Aug is a bit long .
Look at dealers within driving distance. Who knows. But dont settle for less than the Factory one.

There are tons of threads on here giving you a walk-through on installing an aftermarket remote start on your own. I would suggest a DBALL plus T-harness. I did this myself and the total cost was $70.00 and it took all of 15 mins to install. I also added a VSM200 smart start module so I can remote start my truck from my cell phone.

How do you like the smart start? Also is that a yearly fee?

Do you guys think it's possible to have an aftermarket remote starter programmed through the ram key fob?

The Dball is the option for most folks wanting that factory look, but it did not work for me and I had to send it back. The problem was actually due to my laptop. I do not have a windows based computer, with exception to my work one and the work one would not let me download the software. So it was a no go.... Everyone I know with em loves em

Here you go sir:

Plug N Play Remote Start Kit for 2013 2014 Dodge RAM DBALL2 THCHD3 T Harness | eBay

It's not the factory one, but it sure is a heck of a lot cheaper and works great. Installs in about 15-20 minutes. Never had an issue.

Smart start is awesome! If my truck is parked in a location with cell service, and I have service on my cell phone I can lock/unlock or start it. It gives you almost unlimited range. There is a fee for the service. Last time I signed up, it was $70/year or $130 for 3 years if I remember correctly.

You could always bring it in to a shop. Most places will flash the DBALL for you for next to nothing (or free).

Two questions..

I have a 2014 and from looking at eBay description I see this..

An Authorized Directed Dealer Login is also needed for the Key2Go programming access. We provide you with the temporary Key2Go programming access that is needed along with your order for this package.

Does that mean they give you everything you need to install this?

Also, would you install this on a lease? I'm not worried about the cost, just that maybe it'd mess something up when I went to trade it back in for another truck.
