What is everyones thoughts on replacing the original air filter with a drop in filter?

Im looking at AFE and am especially intrigued by the inverted filter that fits in the rectangular opening but then acts like a cone filter with more surface area?

Also have read a few places about removing charcoal filter, thoughts?

The 6.4 air filter already flows pretty well. Quite a few of us 5.7 guys upgrade to that filter for a stock look while running a few bolt ons. I’ll be running it full bolt on because I plan on installing a aev snorkel which mounts to the stock airbox. Even the ecodiesel uses the same filter as the 6.4 and that’s a turbo diesel.

No I never got it, I don't like being the test dummy. I think it would probably be the best option though don't you? The inverted come style

I would think so. More surface area. It’s got to be tough being designed to have a turbo pull air through it at 50 psi plus. I understand not wanting to be the test pilot. But I kinda want one too.

6.4 air intake has restrictive bellows section, rough inner surface, and moderate filter surface area.

SB Filters flows app. 1/3 less restriction, according to their published bench data. I put theirs on mine. Seems snappier.
