But the blue! :( hah. Too bad he doesn't go above 6000k and maybe mix/match the bulbs. I think I'll be able to deal with the minor differential.

Keep in mind, the camera will distort photo color too,

My 35w/5000's HID's look pure white in person, slight blue near the cutoff due to prism effect

Photos look way too blue sometimes, specially when I turn my stock halogen fogs on

yellowfogs_zpsdfaa9a01.jpg

the light from my halogens fogs looks white (but only on their own)

HID2_zpsa84e6b24.jpg

the light from my 35w/5000 projectors looks white too

But put them on together and its quite obvious I need a Fog HID upgrade now

Bottom line, don't judge color choice by internet photos'

IMHO 6000k is max and Blue is the color of Rice :puke:

I wonder if 4300K or 5000K fogs with 6000K heads would make the temperatures appear more similar with the amber from the running lights.

I would bet that the 50w heads vs 35w fogs is making a difference too
When the bulb doesn't get as much power the color is different, LED's or not.

This video is a good example of swapping 35 to 55 ballasts

35w VS 55w HID color effect difference - YouTube

So while a 6000k bulb may look white when fed from a 55w ballast, it's a lot more "blue" at just 35w ;)

Actually 4300 is considered day light, 5000 is just a hint of blue

And here's the blue tint I was referring to near the cut-off line on a 5000k

I think I read somewhere that 5000k has the best output (lumens) all else being equal.
and I think that's what Jeremy uses himself and recommends to most of his customers.

Good info, seems you're right - the color change is probably more to do with ballasts than the amber LEDs...that makes sense.

4300k has more lumens output then 5000k for same type of bulb, ive tried both and do like the 5000k better, it does glare a bit more in snow and rain where i found the 4300 cut right through it but not enough glare to not like it

I originally had a theory that liquid would cause issues with them mounted here, luckily I was able to put that theory to test a couple days later. We had major storms roll through and caused minor street flooding near my house. I drove the truck through the flooded areas and had water splashing everywhere, and the HIDs didn't even twitch, so I guess it's all good.

Yeah those connections seal pretty good with the gaskets on them. The ballast for my fogs sit right above them and have been soaked with water a few times. No problems. We got that same storm last week and I had to drive through some high water on my way home.

Fogs might very well be my next purchase. My 5000K 55W fogs currently result in a lot of headlight flashing currently when in use at night.

I've been putting off doing an HID upgrade to my fogs,
concerned the extra output in a reflector housing would have too much light scatter.

You're the first one I've heard confirm there is a real risk.
I know an HID bulb in a reflector headlight housing is a big issue,
but thought the fogs are mounted low enough to stay out of on-coming traffics eyes, guess not.

So a projector retro fit makes sense , but its not cheap ouch!

No problems with mine.
But I do think they should be aimed a little lower.

Can the fogs be adjusted?

I have retro'd headlights and fog lights. Fog lights are pretty sweet cause you can aim them a lot higher than you normally would with halogens without running the risk of getting high-beamed constantly.
