I seriously *****'d,lol. I've been saying 3/16's,but they're actually 5/16's X18 NC. Sorry about that Khristopher, and i owe CJ57 a thank-you for making me go check the size. Sorry guys my mistake.
Rick
I thought the hole looked a little large for 3/16. Lol. I’ll have to get a tap then. My set only goes to 1/4-20. That also makes things a lot easier. 5/16 x1/2” hex head machine screws are easy to find too so I’m good with that

They’ll milk you for this trans fluid. Lol. 28$ a quart. I bought 2 just to have extra. Might try and do the work tonight if I have enough daylight.

Just run the tap in the holes,as they're just about the proper size already. That way the set screws will fit nice and snug.I'm a firm believer in JB Weld, just put a little smear starting about the 2nd thread back on the set screws, once i ran them in to where i liked,i topped up the holes with a little more JB.

I’ll get to it Wednesday. Ran out of daylight. I disconnected the coolant lines though. For anyone without the 3 way valve it’s actually really convenient. The cold side hose is the right length and bend to be used to connect to the hot side fitting on the water pump. I’ll get pics tomorrow. Will be ordering rubber plugs to completely delete the hose so I’m not running it as a bypass hose

To do my truck right,i'd have to start with longer hoses right from the firewall ahead, and my **** ass would want the factory molded hoses, lol. Supposedly you can delete the 3 way valve with HP,it might even be deletable via AlphaOBD too,but i haven't dug into that end of it yet

Working on it. You can see in the first 2 the hose switched over as bypass and then I cut some hose and used 3/4” brass plugs to seal off the hoses so no more bypass. It’s a royal pain to get this cooler out in the truck. What in the world... the hoses are cooked on for sure. Now the fun begins though. You can see in my last picture I had an oil leak... it was leaking from between the warmer blocking plate and o rings... for anyone wanting to do this please use rtv or just go the cheap route like I’m doing and pull the whole thing and tap the holes and plug them.

Look what I have... o rings... great. So I managed to get the unit out. Those clips are a pain. However. If you remove the 2 bolts that hold the trans lines to the transmission the whole thing will drop down and make it so much easier.

So what hole would you need to block or partially block in the trans thermostat hole to force most of the trans fluid to the cooler and not the heater?

You have to block both holes. The plate is way easier, but you have to make sure you scrape the silicone off the heat exchanger, then apply a good bead of RTV silicone to the O-rings or the plate, when you install the block-off plate,or else it could leak.I don't think Khristopher applied any RTV to the O-rings or plate when he installed it the first time around, which might be a contributing factor to his leaking. The downside to doing it the way Khristopher and i are doing it,is there's no reversing the procedure Shaun, with the block off plate, you can easily go back to stock if you don't like it

Cleaned up. Tapped. Jb weld the plugs in. Time to let it cure.

A little heat applied to the area around the JB Weld will speed things up. I've got one of the bosses old hair dryers i stole when she bought a new one,i just propped it up,so it was blowing hot air on the plugs, not only does it speed up the curing process,it helps the JB bite into the aluminium better.

The earlier thermostat housing would get rid of one blocked off hose . Anything earlier then probably 16 will have the other thermostat housing.I'm not sure if it was 16 or 17 when then got rid of the 3 way valve, but any thermostat housing prior to the 16's or 17's won't have that extra hose fitting .

Yea you are correct. No gasket maker or rtv. I should have and overlooked it because of the o ring. However. I am much happier with this full delete. I do not want to go back. First tests already show that this is promising. I bought fast set jb weld. It’s the 6 hr cure. Already installed the unit back into the truck. Will come back out tomorrow and fill the trans with fluid. Also fully deleted the trans heater hoses. Not so gracefully. Lol. No going back now.

I thought about pulling the coolant lines, but i was thinking of trying to keep them in decent shape.Your way definitely is easier though, lol. I kind of want to keep the hoses intact, thinking somebody might need a set down the road
