Has any one had any rust issues with there 4th gen truck. I was putting on new shocks on my 2014 ram 2500 over the weekend and looking at my passenger side rear wheel well lip has some rust spots forming. This truck is only 4 yrs old shouldn't have rust yet. Does anyone know what the warranty is on our trucks for rust. Also is that somthing the extended warranty covers.

I believe it’s 5 years or 100,000 k here. But from what I understand it has to have rusted straight through. Which is nearly impossible on a 5 year old truck unless it’s been abused and used daily

Line-x the outside and POR-15 the under side and it will help a lot. Can over do it and also get Krown spray lol.

i’m leaning towards a yearly oil undercoating like krown does or the many people who coat with fluid film

Wire wheel the heavy rust, and use duplicolor truck bed liner. Did it to my friends 2006 duramax, looked like new when i was done. I will be using duplicolor bed liner on my underbody when it gets warm. Stuff holds up great!

Hydrochloride acid, copper dust and water solution will speed that up so you can get it covered in time for your warranty. Nah, that would be unethical right?, just like them using thin ass metal!

You gotta see Craw’s rig. If anyone on forums knows how to prevent rust, it is Craw! Every time I see your truck, I want to line-x mine!

my 2012 is bad enough im pulling the bed off this summer. ive had it for a year and every time i look there are new rust bubbles in the paint, and underneath is a nightmare. every nook and cranny has a web or red death spreading.
2 weeks ago i left the grocery store and i heard a bang! and scrapping. hopped out and my P/S running board mount bracket had been completely eaten through. driver side board was almost there too so i just removed it.
this summer is going to be fun

Did you get it sprayed at all? Rust proofed ? Sometimes they have warranty with their sprays

I did not have any preventative measures done. This is newest vehicle I've owned and thought I had a couple years before I had to worry about rust.

But better late then never, currently compiling a list of materials and tools I'm going to need and purchase them over next few months. Sun dose not really come out to stay here in WA till mid-late june.

I just started ordering parts myself. My rockers are shot on my 2009. It looks like 3 inches from the bottom up of my inner rocker will need to be cut out too. My cab corners are also rusted through.

Ouch bummer man

I spent a good portion of yesterday going through rust product reviews. Eastwood seems to have everything a person would need. They also have a fancy inner frame coating applicator.

I think I'm going to use eastwood for the conversion and etch then use por15 to seal. Only issue with por15 is it needs a top coat for UV resistance.

Here some pictures. I'm trying to figure what part number that rotted section is, I don't think it's the inner rocker. I think it might be Part number 16 in the OEM parts picturephCo0tzszhXnV-z_9a4qTe-k251fVHgmpsCA=w1719-h975-no.png

It's a 2009 from Ottawa. It definitely started rusting from the bottom seams up. When I remove the rust that bottom seams getting lots of seam sealer. Maybe even wrap some vinyl over the bottom lip once painted.

For those reading this one definitely should pull off the taillights and spray between the inner and outer panels above the wheel arches on these trucks with something like Krown, Fluid Film, or Boeshield.

I was thinking spring and fall. Just to be safe. Cheap insurance if you ask me. Plus I may talk to the guy and see if he’ll cut me a deal

I agree. I was reading an article about rustproofing and spring is actually the preferred time to do it. Makes sense. That’s when everything’s starts to thaw and moisture builds up.
I do however like the idea of doing it in the fall and spring.
