Anyone adding Sea Foam to the oil crankcase shortly before a scheduled oil change? Good idea, bad idea? 2023 5.7 HEMI.
Thanks
Mike

Neither good Or bad. It’s stoopid.

Ask your warranty.

Ask your oil-refiner (no matter what brand you use) if their oil will address the issues and aftermath of a “flush” with SeaFoam.

Ask SeaFoam if their product meets the warranty-requirements of your vehicle for lubrication. Or cooling. Or corrosion-control. ..and ask your favorite filter-manufacturer if they’ve tested the efficacy and durability of their filters with snake oils. Ask for the test results.

OR…take a chance. (It may not be any worse than the stoopid 18-yr-old thing I did to my parents Dodge using kerosene.)

According to Google: A gallon of Sea Foam Motor Treatment typically costs between $60 and $80 per gallon, depending on the retailer.

A gallon of kerosene or diesel is less than $5.

Skip the Seafoam, use something far better than most/any additive.

Look locally and find Valvoline Restore and Protect full synthetic. Use the 5w-20 if that is what your owner's manual calls for AND you are still under warranty. If you are outside the warranty seriously consider the 5w-30 version of the same oil. Start using this at your next oil change, and keep using it. Try to match it with a quality filter with synthetic media

It is very widely available so it's easy to find, and it is priced comparable to just about any other off-the-shelf full synthetic.

The lab reports on this oil show it is amazing.

Look up SDS anytime you ask the question and ignore brand. Is it a good idea to add a quart or pint of alcohol and oil to your crank case because that is what is in sea foam motor treatment. Putting it in a crank case just isn't remotely as effective as sea foam through vac lines which actually works. This process puts alcohol right to piston top 100%. See Chris fixes boroscopes. If you want a safe flush run Valvoline restore and protect for bottom of pistons and oil gally's and redline si-1 if you want top of pistons, or run sea foam the only way it should be run through vac lines.

Running the restore and protect in my 2004 Jeep TJ. Wow what a difference it is making. I’m not a snake oil fan but with 210,000 miles on this engine the noise it used to make is gone. Just put it in last oil change and coming up on number 2 oil change. Just WOW!

Thanks for the responses. Just to be clear.......I have not used Sea Foam in my Ram. I have also never used it in any other vehicle. I recently came across a YouTube video that states using 1 oz of Sea Foam per quart of oil between 100 and 300 miles prior to your next oil change is good for reducing oil sludge build up. BUT..........I also came across a YouTube video that said good quality oils can also prevent oil sludge build up. I was just wondering if anyone used the Sea Foam and had good results. Thanks
