Starting to think i will need a 2500. But Love the 1500. I have been doing alot of research on the different trim levels and seems the higher pgk you go the less you can tow. I have my eyes set on a 2015 Limted, but saw on the Ram Truck site it has a tow rating of 8500#. Which is my dilemma. The wife and I have been looking at TT and of course the one I like is pretty long and heavy. Got me thinking a 1500 Limited will not cut the mustard. Here is link New 2016 KZ Spree 329IK Travel Trailer at Beckleys RVs | Thurmont, MD | #32634

But a quick run down on the TT is that it has a gross weight of 9500#, 36ft6" long. All advise would be greatly appreciated.

2500 territory. you have to account for the loaded weight which will no doubt be beyond the highest rated 1500

1500 is the wrong truck for that trailer. 2500 for sure.

For that trailer, get a 2500. Trailer weight would probably be ok as I'm sure it doesn't weigh 9500lbs but the hitch weight might put you over payload. Another BIG issue IMO is the length! With that much trailer behind you, you're gonna want a truck with a little more heft to keep it planted on the road. You don't want to get blown all over the place, those kinda drives will WEAR YOU OUT!

I had a TT that only weighed about 7500 lbs RTC but it was just over 34' ball to bumper, towed it with a 2500 CTD. There is something to be said for having a truck with enough heft to handle being pushed around by the wind..........

Just for reference, pic was from the last trip I towed it. A 1500 is shorter (wheel base makes a huge difference towing) and weighs less, plus the trailer you are looking at is longer and heavier.

That's a 2500 trailer, minimum. Check the tow capacities keeping in mind the engine and gears that are available.

Go with the 2500 if you have the option to do so.

Or if you have a 1500 already and love it, find a different trailer within your capabilities. :)

That's a tough dilemma, I'm in the same boat. House to work is 2.5 miles. I've always had smaller commuter cars prior to the RAM, so I just started walking to work. Lost a bit of weight, saves money on gas, and save a TON of stress avoiding all the idiot drivers on the road!

If you're stuck on a trailer that long & heavy, 2500.
Here's another perspective; some camp sites are a bugger to navigate with a long trailer. I'm not even talking finding a site length which can accommodate 55' of truck & trailer, I just mean the winding road from the gate TO the site. Some sites even have length restrictions.
Unless you need that kind of length, you may buy a bigger truck, spend more on gas and not need it. Consider how much time you'll spend inside the trailer.

Yea it sucks that they make these TT you drewl over and so much u have to account for. Dont think i can justify spending 55k plus on a 2500. Just to pull a TT. Not my ideal family every day vehicle. Got some time to decide.

You can yank plenty of leisure space behind a 1500 be it fiberglass or tin and splinters. Finding the one you can manage is a hair splitting good time for sure. Happy hunting to you and the missus.
