Anyone have any coolant problems in the 13 Rams with 8 speed? I drove it today amd started to smell antifreeze. Then while idling the coolant temp jumped to 225 and oil also to 225. Got home and there is antifreeze all inside the engine bay but concentrated on the passenger side. Needless to say I'm pissed. $50k truck and now this 1700 miles later. Anyone?

It looks like the radiator cap needs to be turned more to the right.

I'll take a look at the cap. I tried to look for a loose hose but it's tough at night. Will look again in the morning.

Apparently the cap wasn't turned all the way as you guys noticed but maybe 1/8 of a turn loose. Would that really cause antifreeze to spew everywhere? The only thing I could think of is when I emptied my catch can my shoulder loosened it reaching in.

I really hope that was the extent of it. I have to wash out the engine bay and keep my fingers crossed.

I know I beat this "Moroso is a better catch can" thing to death but prime example of mounting location being superior. Never would have happened with the Moroso!

It's not even his catch can. Leaning in wouldn't loosen a rad cap.. Those things are friggen tight

And yes if rad cap is loose it might not be making a good tight seal. So when it heats up could overflow

I'll keep my fingers crossed that the cap was the culprit, and you're trouble-free going forward.
And the Moroso can, with it's freedom of placement, can make life easier.

Same thing happened to me on my new truck. Not sure if they didn't tighten it when it was PDI'd or it came loose. If it comes loose again take it back to the dealer.

You know if you guys did any maintaince you would find these things.
$50,000 dollar truck or not,you should still be checking fluid levels when you buy it,more common sense then anything

This^^^^

My friend got his new truck and has opened the hood to look under it. He has not checked any fluid levels, played with anything or caressed his engine in any way. It sits at 8500 miles and not even an oil change. And he complains about women not checking their fluids.

It's new but humans put it together.

Wow...thanks for instilling some common sense!

I did check everything and this would have happened sooner if the cap was like that all summer. I checked how easy it would loosen and it more than likely did come loose from me reaching in and emptying the catch can before I left on vacation Friday. I repeated it and sure enough my arm/shoulder rubs it.

It was 99ºF here yesterday and mine stayed as cool as a cucumber.

What are your normal temps? I always look at my guages but I'm drawing blanks. Today its hot and I'm hovering 201-205 coolant and 208-212 oil. Pretty sure thats my norm.

That is normal. Your stock tstat is rated at 205*, so it will always vary within a few degrees of 205* while cruising.

Mine leaked also. But it was tight. I replaced mine with a Slant cap and my leak is gone.

Interesting. It does seem easier to loosen then it should be especially when not hot and under pressure. Where did you pick that up at?
