Hello, I am new to the forum and i am currently looking at a 2004 Ram 1500 SLT 4X4. I took the truck for a test drive a little while ago and noticed that the speedometer seemed to be off by about 10 mph at 55 mph, (so when at 55 it is reading 45). the speedometer does not surge at all if that helps. the truck may have been upgraded from the steel wheels to the polished aluminum in the pic below, i'm thinking with bigger wheels it may have changed the speed, is this a common problem, or will the truck need a new speed sensor and how do i go about getting one for the oversized wheels. Any help is appreciated

That's quite a bit off. I wonder if it was changed with a tuner.

Thank you for the reply, so if it was changed with a turner would it have to go to the dealership to get the head reprogrammed?

You could take it to the dealership and it should be able to be fixed. However, you know you'll be paying just to get them to look at it.

Another option would be to go ahead and get a custom tune and adjust it to where you want it to be. I would go the second route. Just because I want a tuner anyway.

Yeah, i thought about that, i guess i could always use a radar detector that way i can drive how i want when there are no cops around :). I suppose if I go to my local parts store they should be able to hook up their scan tool for free and maybe get a code or somehow re calibrate the instrument head.

is that ur truck in the pic? it looks like it has stock 20s on it? 10 mph is pretty bad im off 5 mph with 35s above 65mph. its less of a diffrence if im going slower. are the speed sensors on the rear of the trans or the rear diff?
