I'm having an issue with the steering on my new 2019 Ram 1500 new body Laramie Longhorn. I now have 10,000 miles on the vehicle. I noticed this when I first obtained delivery. Most of my driving has been on rather straight roads with a few curves. I'm in Colorado on the east side of the mountains. This week we took a trip up into the mountains. Took some back paved roads and off the interstate driving. Drove about 12 hours. When turning the wheel to the right for a curve in the road, the steering wheel centers correctly, as all vehicles would that are aligned properly. However, a left hand curve at just about any speed, has a catch in it. It will want to continue turning left even after I'm out of the curve. It's as if there's a high spot in a round gear or a tight cog in a gear. I have to put pressure on the wheel to pull it back. I've had the alignment checked. I mentioned something to the dealer after first noticing it, and he suggested the button that will pull back the wheel when the truck wanders out of the lane. But, it will do that when it's in function or when I disable it. The steering, I've been told, is not mechanical but electronic. I know nothing about that type of steering.Has anyone had this experience or something similar. I've driven trucks all my life, having a class 1 license years ago. 18 wheelers, etc.. I'm 75. Never had this issue with any vehicle. Any advice? I have an appointment with the dealer service department in about 10 days to take it in for a look see.

I found a link on the web for NHTSA Steering Problems. There are 19 owners that have posted complaints with NHTSA regarding Steering problems. Some are considering it a dangerous fault. Steering sticks on and left hand curve at about 10 to 11 o'clock. So far no one has been able to get an answer from the dealer. It's very disconcerting when mountain driving. I'm always having to be on guard. It's not comfortable driving. My wife could not drive this vehicle with this fault. It would freak her out. Here's the website that I found. I'm taking these comments to the dealer when I take it in. Let me know if you come up with anything.

Recall Date
January 24, 2019

A loose 12-volt battery ground fastener may cause an intermittent battery ground connection which can result in an intermittent loss of power steering assist with inconsistent steering effort required by the driver. Inconsistent steering effort may contribute to oversteer and understeer conditions which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning

HERE are the other (2) RECALLS I had done, FYI:

Status
Complete
Recall Date
May 31, 2019
FCA Recall #
V61
NHTSA Recall #
19V-407
Safety Defect/Non Compliance Description and Safety Risk

Once the vehicle is keyed-off, the ORC begins normal routines under its own power reserve. If the ORC powers down and interrupts a memory erase process, data corruption could occur. Memory cleanup does not occur every key-off, not all interruptions will cause corruption, reserve time will vary, and other factors make the occurrence highly variable. Corrupted ORC flash memory may result in internal faults codes, illuminated Airbag Warning Lamp, and disabled deployment of airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. Disabled airbag and seatbelt pretensioner deployment may increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants in the event of a crash.

Repair Description

Inspect the ORC for the specific internal fault codes. If the specific fault codes are present, replace the ORC. If not, reprogram the ORC with updated software.

Safety Defect/Non Compliance Description and Safety Risk

An adjustable brake pedal assembly that allows the brake pedal adjustment to over travel could cause the brake pedal to become separated from the pedal assembly. If the brake pedal separates from the adjustable pedal assembly, the driver may be unable to use the brake pedal to apply the service brakes, which can cause vehicle crash without prior warning.

Repair Description

FCA US will conduct a Voluntary Safety Recall on all affected vehicles to repair the adjustable pedal assembly.

Some have posted on here and other sites that they had their steering rack replaced to correct the problem.

Buddy had the same issue, steering box needs to be replaced. Video the issue so when they tell you they can't reproduce the problem you have footage showing it. Seems to be the norm with these dealerships nowadays if it's not a blatantly obvious issue. Good luck.

I just purchased a Certified Preowned 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn with 30,078 miles on it. I purchased it out of state and on the drive home I noticed the steering sticking on curves, both right and left. I am not a fan of my local dealer service department, how best could I address this issue. I did purchase the extended warrantee. I need to get this addressed, my son is getting his license and will be driving my truck.

Can anyone provide me with who to contact at Ram, and how to contact them.
