My wife's Durango has the Pentastar engine and it doesn't have an electric motor.Stellantis still is doing the pentastar type engine that powers an electric motor, yeah what possibly could go wrong, lol. They cant even do e-torque right and now this? Long live the hurricane, it's Rams only hope imo.

The All-New Ram 1500 REV delivers innovative performance with a liquid-cooled 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack paired with a 130-kilowatt generator. The 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine generates mechanical power, which is converted to electrical power by the onboard generator for maximum efficiency. The generator can also increase the power to the motor and gearbox when serious power is needed.

The Chevy Volt has a little generator in it to improve the range. the batteries took it ~20 miles then the generator would run to charge the batteries so you could make it to where you where going.Reading this again reminded me of how ridiculous that setup was.
Put a gas engines in an EV to extend range.![]()
That's true, but no one wanted one. In the end it didn't work out well for Chevy. The Chevy Volt has a little generator in it to improve the range. the batteries took it ~20 miles then the generator would run to charge the batteries so you could make it to where you where going.
You're right, they don't want to give up on EV's. Car makers have poured millions into developing them. They want to make that money back somehow. They don't want to give up the ghost. My guess is they think if they make other vehicles so poorly, then by default we will want the EV cr@p.
If you have to have an EV I think this is the best way to do it that also relieves range anxiety. No chance I'd buy anything out thats a pure EV currently, but if you told me I could have an EV that could charge itself up with a little fuel so that I could make a road trip and not stop for an hour to charge for every couple hours I drove, I might be able to entertain that. This is far from the first electric vehicle to have a gas range extender.Reading this again reminded me of how ridiculous that setup was.

The problem with letting elected officials set these standards is that they could change every two years when new representatives are elected. Could you imagine the mess if the EPA regs changed every two years? The issue is pretty simple. The Government, not elected officials (EPA) set standards, rules etc for all the MFG's. This has been reversed by this new group in charge.
When the other group gets back in charge they may let the EPA (non elected people) control things again.
Really the EPA put a lot of requirements on MFG's to get XX mpg, more electric options, so the MFG's put in billions of dollars in R&D along with marketing and making them, just to have most of the public reject them. I am glad the mandate is gone, when the battery technology is a lot better maybe then people will want them.
