Yeah, due to the end of the 7500 rebate, everyone is killing off their EV plans, funny how that works. The truth is very few like Tesla get it right anyway, so massive problems with new tech. The rebate roll out was seriously flawed as well. Only the rich could enjoy the rebate at first, you needed to pay 7500 in tax to get it back, if not you only got what you paid in tax, so most peoples rebates were like 4000 and not 7500 actual value, and plus companies got every penny of the rebate, like hertz bought a ton, but then found out customers didn't want to wait an hour to charge a rental car, wrote it off as a total loss and sold them all, lol. Money well spent giving hertz 7500 times 100,000 the number of Teslas they bought, lol. It failed please USA move on, with AI coming we need less EV not more.

The issue is pretty simple. The Government, not elected officials (EPA) set standards, rules etc for all the MFG's. This has been reversed by this new group in charge.

When the other group gets back in charge they may let the EPA (non elected people) control things again.

Really the EPA put a lot of requirements on MFG's to get XX mpg, more electric options, so the MFG's put in billions of dollars in R&D along with marketing and making them, just to have most of the public reject them. I am glad the mandate is gone, when the battery technology is a lot better maybe then people will want them.

Stellantis still is doing the pentastar type engine that powers an electric motor, yeah what possibly could go wrong, lol. They cant even do e-torque right and now this? Long live the hurricane, it's Rams only hope imo.

My wife's Durango has the Pentastar engine and it doesn't have an electric motor.

Ram Charger

The All-New Ram 1500 REV delivers innovative performance with a liquid-cooled 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack paired with a 130-kilowatt generator. The 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine generates mechanical power, which is converted to electrical power by the onboard generator for maximum efficiency. The generator can also increase the power to the motor and gearbox when serious power is needed.

Reading this again reminded me of how ridiculous that setup was.

Put a gas engine in an EV to extend range.:laughing1:

The Chevy Volt has a little generator in it to improve the range. the batteries took it ~20 miles then the generator would run to charge the batteries so you could make it to where you where going.
That's true, but no one wanted one. In the end it didn't work out well for Chevy.

I can see the Ram Charger doing better because it has real performance and utility advantages that the Volt didn't have. I suspect Stellantis keeps delaying the release of it because they are having difficulty working out the bugs. My confidence will be low for the first couple model years if they ever do release it. I was interested in it for a while but I've moved on.

Funny, all I see on TV for car ads is for EVs.

They don't want to give up the ghost. My guess is they think if they make other vehicles so poorly, then by default we will want the EV cr@p.

You're right, they don't want to give up on EV's. Car makers have poured millions into developing them. They want to make that money back somehow.

If you have to have an EV I think this is the best way to do it that also relieves range anxiety. No chance I'd buy anything out thats a pure EV currently, but if you told me I could have an EV that could charge itself up with a little fuel so that I could make a road trip and not stop for an hour to charge for every couple hours I drove, I might be able to entertain that. This is far from the first electric vehicle to have a gas range extender.

The problem with letting elected officials set these standards is that they could change every two years when new representatives are elected. Could you imagine the mess if the EPA regs changed every two years?

Stellantis better start doing something right. Something like 70% of dealers have no faith in Stellantis management. Stock prices are down ~40% from a year ago. Additionally, Stellantis reported a net loss of approximately $2.7 Billion for the first half of 2025, primarily driven by U.S. tariffs, program cancellations, and restructuring charges. The company's revenue also declined 13% year-over-year for the same period.

Dealers are chock-a-block loaded with trucks for sale, and prices are too high. Stellantis truly got greedy with price escalations during COVID, now that's biting them in the ****.......

Ford lost $3.7 billion on EV's in 2024, and it continues into 2025. Stellantis cannot afford to do something like that or it will be broke. That is a fact, Jack.

I am not against EV's, they have their place in warmer climates and in city driving, mostly in cars or light delivery vehicles.
In the great north the technology is not here yet.
