A lot of exhaust will begin as 2.5 from the manifold/header to the muffler and then 2.25 from the muffler back. It is fairly common. I don't see an issue going 3" down to 2.5.
^^^^ this

A 2600 or 2800 torque converter is in the works but just not sure how soon. I don't want to deal with a ****** running truck til then. I have a 93 custom tune from hemi fever is there anything he can do on his end?

No a tuner cannot do anything about lost savaging. Other than reducing the pipe a torque converter and or gears is the only way to get your low end back but that is more $$$.

I am in the process of picking out mufflers and making an appointment at the welding shop ASAP. What would be the better choice?
1. Keep the 3 inch piping from headers all the way back to mufflers and get new 3" in 2.5" out mufflers and run 2.5" from mufflers back.
2. Install new 2.5" piping from the headers all the way back thru to the tips
3. Or some variation of the 2 that i didn't mention

IMHO, it's your (2) 3 inch head pipes that are too large for your needs. A single 3" back to the **** would be fine, but I don't believe running a single pipe to a single **** is 'what you want'.

My advice would be to see post #18 in this thread.

What would be best?
A y pipe to single 3" all the way back or x pipe with dual 2.5" all the way back?

I obviously want it to be loud but I want to make it run as good as possible

This is one of those subjective debates, I'm a fan of 3" to the muffler of choice for your sound tastes then dual 2.5" to the tips, will give a great tone, proper range of back pressure for the computer controlled EFI motor, while still getting rid of the exhaust.

On another note I have seen on late model camaro and mustangs 3" straight piped after the cats with the X pipe to the rear of the vehicle and downsized the pipes to 2.5" out the back from there and pick up power (not much) and be loud as hell...

Not sure how a system like that would do on these trucks though as these motors are bigger

Can I keep the two 3 inch high flow cats i have now that came with my stainless works system and go down to 2.5 inch piping after the cats? Or go 2.5 inch right off the headers and get 2 new magna flow 2.5in high flow cats?

And I've narrowed down my muffler choices to magna flow of borla?

Just keep the cats and go down to 2.5" exhaust.

You're making this a lot more complicated then it has to be. lol

Yes, that would be a good solution for exhaust sizes.

As far as which muffler brand, that's totally a subjective decision and up to you. Whichever sounds best to you is what you should get. Both brands are well made.

When i get these mufflers installed should I have them cut off the cats? The hemifever tune won't throw codes for no cats correct and ill still pass emissions? Unless they do a visual inspection of course.

I have the Flowmaster 10 series and it sounds pretty good on my hemi. Future upgrades of maybe a cam a long tube headers.
