Ok guys this really threw me for a loop.
2019 Bighorn, brand new, 1500 miles. Day 1 of a road trip through the Virginia mountains, nighttime, enjoying my awesome bright LEDs on high beams. Spot a deer just in time, had to nail the brakes and luckily avoided him.
Right after I drove by him, after the aggressive braking, I get a “Service Electronic Stability Control” message along with the amber car skidding light on the dash. Followed shortly by the red BRAKE ON light (parking brake set?).
As I’m pulling over to troubleshoot, my brake pedal feels terrible! Almost as if the ABS is constantly kicking in, tons of vibration through the pedal and questionable braking performance.
Ok, no need to panic. I get it stopped, cycle the parking brake... nothing.
Executive decision time.. I shut off the truck completely and open the door. Close it again and restart the truck. Note, the brake pedal is extremely stiff, takes quite a bit of pressure on it to push it enough to allow the starter to engage. It starts, all the warning lights go out and the brakes work perfectly for the rest of the drive. Problem solved?
Any ideas? This all happened right after the aggressive braking to avoid the deer. Gremlins in the electronics? Dealer visit required?
Thanks for any suggestions.
