I've received a mailed letter back in the summer of 2020, tasking me come trade in the 2018 GMC Sierra I used to own. At the same time in 2020 that auto plants and suppliers started shutting down in the US and Mexico due to COVID, there were a large number of folks in the U.S. transitioning to the "Dirty Boots Economy" and they needed a truck. There was a high demand for used trucks as many dealerships didn't have adequate new truck inventory to keep pace with demand.

Even with the overall downturn in the economy during 2020, the dealership in Tampa, FL that I bought my 2021 Ram 1500 from had a record year in total truck sales.

It's just marketing. A computer generates the letter with "insert name" and "insert vehicle on record" into the appropriate places, nothing more. I get them all the time. Sometimes they offer to reduce my payments. Once they offered to reduce my payment and give me a gift card for a test drive. I took the test drive, but they couldn't reduce my $0/payment so I left with just the gift card.

Yeah its called sale hype bull. like your really think they want your truck,I don't think so.
They DO want his truck for next to nothing while they talk him into a new truck at full msrp.

And while it's true that covid has created a new vehicle shortage, dealers have been sending those letters for years prior to any shortage.

Realtors do the same thing. They tell you that your house 3,4,5 bedrooms; 2,3,4 bathrooms, etc) are selling and that your house is in demand right now. Call them and they can get you top dollar for your house. Then if you respond, if you list and if you sell, they turn around and get more money from you as they help you find a new house (that they also told someone it is in high demand). These marketing tools create demand. Nothing inherently wrong with this, just be knowledgeable about that and of the fact that probably don't even really know who you are.

LOL! I get those all the time from the mega dealer chain in my area that I've dealt a bunch with over the years. It typically starts with a seemingly one-off letter like that and then the phone calls. "We REALLY need your vehicle". "I think you'll be surprised at how much it's worth". Loan balance? No problem is too big or too small, until you go to crunch the numbers with them.

It's all a ploy to get you into the dealership. You can't blame them. They have to sell vehicles.

I received 1.) an email, 2.) a voicemail, 3) a text message, and just now 4.) a very similar letter.

Yes prices are good, but I have more into it with upgrades and such, so wouldn’t even consider.

Besides, I really like my truck [emoji2]

they kinda go by how long you have had your truck. since yours is a 14 it is probably paid off or close to it so they know you won't have a payment or negative equity and would be a prime customer for a new vehicle.ford sends them out after three years of ownership saying you can trade at the same payment or lower because thats about when equity evens out.

They're going about it wrong. They should hold a happy hour at the dealer, all you can drink. Then, when you're good and drunk, close the deal and have someone drive you and your new purchase home (since you're drunk).

You'll be happy when you look in the driveway at your new truck..ster.... Time to go on vacation...

Automakers and even Realtors are low on product right now, so they're trying anything they can to get something to sell. I even get emails from Guitar Center wanting me to trade in gear so they'll have something to sell. In fact a lot of what they're selling right now is used.

I have gotten these letters regarding my Altima, Jeep Liberty, Tundra and now the Ram. They are just trying to get you to go into the dealership and try to sell you a new vehicle. How can you not know this?

Actually do not find this type of letter unusual. Down here - South Texas - the higest demand pick-ups are exactly these. Trademan, 4Xr4, V8, etc. They sell faster than they can get them in and dealers know they can turn one quickly for reasonable profit. So no surprise.

I get letters like this a couple of times a year. Its called an advertisement gimmick. They just want to get you in the showroom, and that you are now ready to trade it off. I got almost the very same letter from the dealer I bought my 17RAM from less than two months ago.

The email I got was from a dealership offering $5000 more than I paid for my truck. Of course when I called them they wanted me to trade the 2020 RAM 3500 Tradesman in on a 2020 Ram 3500 Limited. My "Tradesman" is equipped nicely as it it not what most folks think a Tradesman is.

I have a neighbor who has been receiving letters and phone calls to trade in his early 2000,s Caravan for several years now. He says that at times it's like they are begging him to bring it in. Profit on the sale of a new one and profit on the sale of the used one. He is 88 years old and says he doesn't need a new one.
