Okay guys and gals. I have a 2014 Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins. I am having a strange noise she slowing down. It’s coming from the front of the truck some where. The only way that I can discribe it is like the noise that a flat spotted tire makes. I have checked the front diff fluid level and it’s good. This is my first 4x4. So with that being said I can rotate the drive shaft and it makes noises. I would say popping but maybe a “ping”. I am also able to move the front driveshaft just a small bit. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Well I have a 2017 1500 and the driveshaft was making noise. I brought it in and they checked it and it was fine. They reported play in it but said it was normal.

I think there may be a recall not 100% sure..... Aftermarket exhaust? Sometimes the cam hit the driveshaft.

Take it to the dealership and try to reproduce the sound for them.

In my 1500 i can rotate the front drive shaft when in 2x4 but this may be different on the 2500 cummins.

Thanks for the help. I am at the dealership now. Just rode with the service manager. He is going to have a tech ride with him to see if they can find out what the issue is. I will let y’all know the out come.

The u joints can “ping” and the noise will carry down the drive shaft. Simple enough fix. Have you ever greased that notorious u joint like you are supposed to every oil change? If not I would bet it is the culprit.

You were very close. It was the right front wheel u joint. Fixed under warranty!! Even have a leveling kit in it.
