That is one way to save on the purchase of an antenna.
If I didn't listen to the odd station here and there and didn't trade or sell my vehicles often, this is exactly what I would do

The length and diameter number of turns of wire that cover the length of the antenna tune the antenna design for the best reception. This is also true of CB antennas they must be matched(tuned) to the radio they are hooked up to.

For a cb antenna sometimes to tune them you simply cut some off until your signal strength meter shows the best strength match.

If you check how many Ohms(resistance)with a VOM (volt/ohm meter) your factory one has and try to buy a stubby with the same Ohm value it will help with better reception.

A stubby will still be directional because it is short and below the fender. If you were parked facing one direction and had good reception of a station and then you turned the truck around and parked in the same spot in the opposite direction good chance you would not have the same strength signal and a worse reception

A good test would be to drive an underground parking lot with the radio on and you see how far you get until you lose reception with both antennas.

In my case surprisingly the stubby made it a lot further then the Original antenna.

Vancouver,

Just have to ask was your test with your different antennas was the radio set on the same station? LOL

Get us an update once you do!
Was super easy. Tape up ball on top. Use pliers, twist and remove. Cut antenna to desired length. File/smooth edges and reinstall ball with some adhesive. Paint if you wish. I painted mine black. I did this at work last night, driving home now, reception seems the same as it was with stock length antenna.

just got my stubby today, took the stock antenna off but could not hand thread the stubby on; compared the threads and the stubby's threads were wayy too thicker than stock. Anybody had this before? Call CravenSpeed and they are gonna swap mine out for a stubby with smaller threads.

With the craven speed it comes with multiple ends.
I had no issue with mine.
Im guessing you tried all of them? If so, you are missing one and they should send it to you

I don't recall any adapters with my Craven unit. I'll have to check it out.
I recall opening the box, unscrewing my factory unit, and screwing on the CS unit.

Yea, there should be 3-4 adapters and you probably have to open that little box completely

Mine also did not have adapters.. There are specific models for each vehicle and when installing mine it fit fine

nope no adapters. I was wondering what you meant by multiple ends lol! I ordered the Stubby specifically for Dodge Ram 09-13 models. I think the part # was CRFF-035. CravenSpeed took care of me though as soon as I called them  He emailed me a postage printout so I could return the stubby that didn't fit for free :naughty: They are going to send me one with smaller threads. Was thinking to just file down the threads but was like ehhhh nah I'll call them 1st.
