Gents, let’s talk batteries for a minute.

For those what have replaced their factory battery, what did you choose and why?

I put a Duralast AGM H7 in my truck about 3 years ago when the factory battery crapped out. So far seems to be holding up well.

Next time I'm going with a H8. Its slightly larger but will fit in the factory battery tray with a simple mod. They have more CCAs and are ironically cheaper than H7s in most cases...

I used an interstate battery the same size and type meant fir my 1500. If I was to do it over I would have got one meant for a 2500+ with diesel for the higher cranking amps.

Walmart. Agm h8. Higher cranking amps. Higher constant draw rating. 4 year no questions asked replacement. Cheaper than the auto parts stores by about 50$

I run Deka AGM(East Penn Mfg)whenever I can. They sell under the Deka name, and are private labeled for some others. Some O'Reilly's and NAPA, etc. are Deka. Made in Pennsylvania.

Moes sells them. Lithium and heat don’t like each other so I’m not sure how they will do

Lithium is great for deep cycle batteries for uses like in RV’s but I wouldn’t use them in my vehicles.

I put an Odyssey 49-950 (H8) in mine in the fall.

It looks huge in there compared to the stock one.

Average lifespan for a normal battery is 3-5 years.

The average lifespan for an Odyssey is 8 years.

I haven't looked at it yet, but I think it was @crazykid1994 that posted about knocking a part of the tray out so the H8 would fit. I do know there's about an inch of extra space in the battery tray with a H7 battery there...

Insterstate, to the why is because I didn't really think much about it as the battery was dead and I needed to get it done.

Lithium loses a LOT of amperage when its cold. When I'm at work this time of year i have to move my cordless drill to the cab of the van so it will warm up and actually work.

Not sure if they've figured that out for lithium car bsterries or not.....

So it does fit in the tray and the terminals reach?

There is a small plastic spacer a few inches from the end of the battery tray on the firewall side. Pop it out. It will probably break. I was careful with mine and it still broke so I threw the spacer away.

Fits great and yes everything still reaches no problem.

Odyssey (AGM), made in USA. 94R-850. H7 size, I think.

They use the same battery tray in their diesel trucks that call for an H8 battery. Gas trucks get a spacer and an H7.

That would be the factory H7 replacement for the gasser trucks and CTD(times 2). As mentioned above the 49-950 is the H8 size which is standard for the EcoDiesel, should fit the gasser trays.
I replaced my factory battery with an Odyssey 49-950 last year.

I am not sure what the 3/4 ton 6.4 gasser tray looks like. As crash said above you may be limited to the H7. You would need to look at the tray to see if you have extra space and a small spacer on one side of your tray.
