Does the filter make any difference as well?

Just about 1 or 2 weeks ago I switched from P.U.P. 5w-20 with a Royal Purple 20-820 (oversize) filter, to Red Line 5w-30 and a Purolator Boss PBL24651 (also oversize filter).

Although it seemed to take a day or so, my engine is idling noticeably more quietly
than I have ever heard it. I've owned since 2017 at 22,000 miles.

2014, 5.7L, and 110,000 miles.
I also run nothing but Top Tier 89 octane.

It's been a year or so since I checked in on what oil everyone is using.

I've got a 2015 with a 6.4 just about to crack 120k.

I was running Red Line, and the last two changers, my local supplier has me on what's supposed to be similar in a Valvoline, but I think I hear more valvetrain in both my truck and my GC with a 5.7. Could be placebo, could be real.

What's the recommendations? And I keep seeing Lubegard mentioned. Is it worth the extra $20 every change?

Lubegard at 15 ounce will add about 100ppm oil soluble moly or better to your oil, plus some other goodies esters and stuff. get the 32 ounce size and use 1/2 the bottle, only 10 bucks a serving. The newest spec has most shelf oils pretty equal on additive package, so anything carrying the spec gf-6 is gonna be close to anything else. Go cheap Kirkland synthetic or havoline or even super tech with lubeguard is gonna be a good strategy imo. If Valvoline is working since their commitment to moly, or lack of, over decades it would be really wise to dump in biotech imo. It is very good oil, just one of a few that sometimes moly hasn't been in their formula. Most latest uoa's do have moly, but I never trust any company that omits it for so long like they have in the past.

If you need more info on moly, see the white papers in this thread or boobs, best way to lower the coefficient of friction especially when you have a ticking situation. Which is why biotech is such a good idea, cheap way to ensure you have adequate moly. In the papers more moly = more better as long as you are under 500ppm.

Another thing Valvoline has a very interesting product, check it out, not for every day use but something to consider on older trucks every so often. 13 minute mark, see what it does for bottoms of pistons. It does what redline si-1 does to the top.

I think these are both in the same ilk as they both clean and lubricate, but 3 in 1 isn't a pure lubricant either and it has "some" naptha. I haven't seen the sds on WD-40 none aerosol version. But this is interesting conversation.

Did not know WD-40 can had so much solvent, pdf. learn something knew everyday.

Maybe the low level of naptha in 3 and 1 just to make spreading it easier, or supplies it with that yum smell, lol. dunno

in this imaginary oil battle another fact is WD-40 traces it's origins to 1953, but 3 and 1 dates back to the late 1800's as a bicycle lube, winner 3 and 1.

Showing my age here, but I imagine how many scraps I could have avoided when wrenching inside an engine bay. For ten bucks, it's with a shot. I wont be using it for oil changes, but most other things around the truck, and maybe even chain sawing in the yard, dunno.

These are a necessity for doing manifold bolts!

I've got an old man card too. I looked those sleeves up on Amazon, and am going to order some next week.

Hopefully they will cut down on the big red bruises/blood spots I get on my arms every time I bump.

Those old man spots didn't happen until I had the heart attack last year.
