Went and checked out the RAV 4 last Friday. Unfortunately the full length curvy console raises hell with my long legs. Constant pressure on the shin bone. I was hoping that maybe if we got one that it would give the RAM a reprieve from some of our long distance trips. It certainly would be a decent replacement for the Commodores Prius though. At the stealership the salesman being the typical salesman tried get me interested in a new model that in his words, " people don't seem to know about". It seemed a little more on the luxury side than the RAV 4. I did not investigate it thourghly as I really was not interested but perhaps it might interest your wife. It would still be a Toyota and have the engine that you want. No idea if it has CVT or conventional Trans.
Model was called " Crown Signia".

good info, so we tend to drive it anytime and everywhere we go, so for me that would be a problem. Our rav 4 is old, seams like they ruined one of the great aspects and let some focus group design it. Now that is stupid she'll probably love it.

That is the major reason I cant even drive a Tacoma but like the Nissan for the mid sized, I haven't sat the new ranger. The Tacoma is horrible on long legged dudes getting some age on them.

I don't wanna do door jams though, that would look dumb? Anyone sand blast car paint? maybe I do door jams if I use walnut shells.

I just thought some panels aren't steel. And other don't rust easy, might have to scrap that.

My stash was down to just 4 quarts after changing the oil in my truck the week before.

Actually got a slightly better price on Amazon Canada than I can get anywhere around here and it shipped from an RV place in the US to boot.

Thought I better stock up before any Tariffs come into play. I should be good for a year or so now.

How bad is the paint? Is it worth having it painted professionally if its mechanically sound?

Value is less then ten and a paint job here is likely more then 10. Maaco shut down sadly, ten years ago I priced 3 total paint jobs two were just under 10 and one was 12, straight crooks. It served me well, paid 23k new and 15 years later it is worth ten k, we all should be so lucky?

In that case, get yourself some rattle can primer/paint/2k clear and spray it

The rattle can 2k clear is key, it's a 2 part clear like what you would mix and it gives a decent shine.

I've used this before and it's pretty good stuff

idk - are all rollers needle bearings? @Wild one I know they switched from journal bearings to ball bearings in turbos, and that the ceramic balls fatigued and broke, because ceramic is brittle. So then they put in regular hardened steel balls in, and I haven't heard how they'd held up, because hardness is lost with heating over time.

There's good reason highly loaded parts use journal bearings. Goes way back to basic engineering design textbooks. But we weren't exposed to bean counters and greedy rich guys in college, yet.

In regards to automotive roller lifters i think pretty well all use a needle bearing.I've never seen an automotive roller lifter with ball bearings,but that's not to say somebody hasn't tried them. They'd sure be a small ball though,and i couldn't really see them being long lifed

Big news in nascar world with a twist, nascar says they are close to a 4th manu entering the sport, rumor is it is between dodge and honda. I'm not sure how dodge would fit in as they dont have any cars. Dale jr is hesitant, what if it is honda? Nascar has had v8's since it's inception, would honda entering the sport have nascar entering the a different engine package? More to come...

Dodge could always put the new Charger EV into NASCAR. I mean it might make it 2 or 3 laps before the batteries die and it has to spend the rest of the race in the pit charging...

Looks like the RAV 4 still tops the list for the Commodore, even if it is not ideal for me. After all it is her car and due to the limitations it has for me we would continue to do our twice yearly long trips in the RAM. I guess it was wishful thinking that I could ease of on piling up the miles on the RAM.
On another note, while searching around I stumbled upon this Newly released Jeep Liberty. It appears to be nicely appointed and I believe I read that you can get it with the V-6 Pentastar and ZF transmission. ( no DI, no Turbo ) It still has that center console though which probably takes it out of the running for me and my long legs. I will be checking it out though for the Commodore. I have been very pleased with the V-6 / ZF combination in my RAM. Might be something you might want to look at.
