Yeah do NOT use anything but a CVT fluid in a CVT....
Toyota cvt is even more, well over 100 bucks a gallon, you know I ain't using that garbage. When you spec that WS you lose all credibility? I will find a good option, if I will tend to go with a 30k interval I will opt for amsoil, if I go to 20k miles I will go Valvoline for something. I will stay on it check the fluid and see.

omg that stuff is expensive, more then redline, lol. 70 bucks a gallon amsoil cvt. How many quarts the rogue take?
Not if youre a preferred customer, its like $52 for a gallon. A drain and fill for mine is 3.5 quarts and I do an annual drain/fill. So its like $60/year with tax.
Toyota's "Direct Shift-CVT" features a simulated 10-speed transmission with a physical "launch gear" for initial acceleration and a continuously variable belt drive for smooth, efficient operation, offering a 6% fuel efficiency improvement.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Simulated 10-Speed:
While it's a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), the system simulates 10 gear ratios, allowing drivers to use paddle shifters for a more traditional feel.

  • Launch Gear:
A physical first gear, also known as a "launch gear," is used for initial acceleration from a standstill, improving low-speed responsiveness and efficiency.

  • Belt Drive:
Once the vehicle is moving, the belt drive takes over, providing a smooth, continuous range of gear ratios.

  • Benefits:
    • Improved Fuel Efficiency: The system is designed to optimize engine speed for fuel economy, resulting in a claimed 6% improvement.

    • Smooth Acceleration: The continuously variable nature of the CVT allows for smooth and linear acceleration without the jolts of traditional transmissions.

    • Quieter Operation: The system can maintain steady cruising speeds at lower RPMs, leading to reduced noise levels.

    • Fewer Moving Parts: CVTs typically have fewer moving parts than traditional automatic transmissions, potentially leading to lower production and repair costs.
Nice so it does have that actual 1st gear. Starting from a stop is what is the hardest on that belt....

amsoil for the win, appreciate you man, that will be my go to whatever it takes on capacity.

Now I wonder how the axle goes, my old rav 4 shared sump trans and diff, in other words one fluid for both functions. I have to see if this is the same or cvt fluid is separate, I wonder if I will have front diff fluid.

at 52 bucks I will go amsoil.

Yup it should be the same, axle is integrated.

Is it awd? It might have a transfer case that takes different fluid if thats the case

What's your guys thoughts on Super Tech's full synthetic 5W-30.Only asking as my local Wally World has it on sale for $7.00 less then PUP 5W-30.Redline is getting stupidly expensive so i'm kind of looking at alternative oils ,i'd be throwing a bottle of Lube Gard in with it,if it's a viable oil.
$29.00 for 5L of it,is a great price for us Canucks
SuperTech oils, all of them, are every bit as good as any major brands of the same specifications. Most SuperTech is refined/packaged by well-known and respected Warren Oil or SOPUS (Shell Oil co.)
Pennzoil-Quaker State Company was purchased by Royal Dutch/Shell Group to form SOPUS Products (an acronym for Shell Oil Products US).
SuperTech bottles/jugs are marked SOPUS if you look at the small print.

Now all you need is an old school snowmobile racer/tuner to tune the belt drive, lol. Brings to mind when we had 3 or 4 drive clutches on hand, and differant springs and ramps for the driven clutch, lol

I got a short list of stuff I would love to own some day. A 12 valve cummins and a one cylinder snow mobile. You might have to chose your hill and avoid some steep ones, but generally speaking you know you aren't gonna break down?

CVT tuning is voodoo black art. Primary weights, heel and toe weight, idle spring, helix angle, secondary spring, clocking, shimming, oh my. Please consult Marie Laveau...

Sounds like how we used to tune snowmobile drives, lol. All those apply to a belt drive on a sled :waytogo:

For the 8 speed trucks. Might look into this for the wife's Grand Cherokee as well.

I wonder if a guy could use a set of load spreaders under the bolts, like we used to use on valve covers years ago.
That's a good find Corey :waytogo:

I have been having really good luck with mobil 1. I finally got out of the first oil change on the new LSX which it appears the previous owner put 5w30 in it. Way too thin for that engine. Anyways I got rid of the no name filter and the oil. Threw in 15w50 and a XP truck filter after hunting for the right one to work with the headers. Oil pressure is 80 cold 60 hot 50-55 hot in traffic. It sounds a hell of a lot better. The Flex I switched oil filters from the motorcraft which I was told by everyone to stay with as it might cause issues changing it. I went with a Mobil 1 filter and that has been a far better choice. The motor runs smoother and sounds smoother as well. The Jeep is on PUP still and the puralator boss filter. I let every bit of the oil drain out of it this time and then refilled it and it seems better than previous oil changes where I would get the bad dry start. I am tempted since it is out of warranty to look into Mobil 1 for it.
