To my oil buddies and those who cant wait til I move on from the SUV talk, the verdict is in and to my pleasant surprise the wife chose the toyota cross.

Pros
Number one and deal breaker is I am 6'4 well over 250 and it is easy in easy out for me and comfortable driving. This is not the case in so many vehicles, tbh I was very surprised by this.

I will have to check this one out! At over 6'2" and 215# I have the same issues. Biggest for me is the long legs though. That full length console presses right into my right shin bone. 100 miles is pretty much Max. That is why I absolutely love my RAM with the 3 in front seat configuration.
I most likely would opt for the hybrid in order to secure the e-CVT. Especially if available without all wheel drive. I have done much researching on the e-CVT and my usual CVT phobia has been pretty much put to rest in regards to the e-CVT. All gears. No belts, chains ect.
Now I have another one to look at!!

Simple interior is a plus and minus, I like the simple but they can do better imo.
Handling is hands down better then rav 4, I was sure we were buying a Subaru or rav 4 start of day, test drove cross and rav 4, the cross drives better all the way around, especially up a steep hill and stop and go.
NON DI Turbo, but is direct injection
Only 24k new, common now sweet. Holds value big time.

Cons- MPG's less then rav 4
Under Powered
No awd standard like the subaru's
Simple interior
cvt longevity and mpg

Mind you my "issue" with CVT is longevity and lies about mpg's, I actually like the function especially in low rpm's. I live up a steep hill, we test drove the rav 4 up the hill it was gear hunting and spinning, crazy. The cross I stopped many times and started, just butter smooth up steep grade. The largest difference the modern rav 4 ain't your daddy's rav 4, it is wider and clunky, I was very surprised how poor it drove. Mind you I still believe that trans/engine combo is a winner in general, but we parked the rav 4 next to our rav 4 and you can see it is wider. The facts are only an inch wider, but the drive is very very different. Very clunky like a Tacoma, now we are truck guys we are used to it, but I kid you not my ram is smoother driving then the new rav 4.

Now, if it were me and I was in this sub compact SUV market for me, I would have likely went with Hyundai Kona, similar engine, 8 speed trans, and a 10 year warranty for the same exact price. But as @Hemi395 and @U&A can attest, when dealing with women they will have different criteria then you, and all you can hope for is an ok Decision, maybe not the best choice for you, and I think I accomplished that. The wife has a small list and toyota is on it and hyundai isnt is on it, nothing American is on it sad to say, but of note the cross is made in usa. Corey in general Toyota cvt's are good?

Hope this helps someone in the sub compact SUV market.
Ask the wife many cup holder are in the Cross. Bet she knows. LOL.

Glad she went for Toyota tho. CVT’s can be a very efficient way to put power down, but NOT in a 3,000+lbs wind dam with under 200HP. I dont know anything about the new CVT’s tho.

Look at snowmobiles. They HAUL ASS with a CVT. Arm straightening acceleration. But their HP to weight ratio is nuts.

Anyway. Toyota is hard to argue with. DI kinda sucks tho. I worry a lot about my wifes 2.3turbo ranger. Problems waiting to happen.

If Toyota made a 1ton pickup id look hard at it. I think others would too.

Also….am I even relevant on this thread any more:hidesbehindsofa::rotflmao:

I stopped hanging out here a LONG time ago. How many cool kids are left besides Mike and Corey:rotflmao:. Lot of guys come and gone?

Im an ass.

that corey guy has sick skills on searches.
You know whats funny about that? I didn't search it at all lol

I subbed to that channel a while back because hes a Mopar tech and I had found another video of his about the Hemi. It wasn't anything we didn't know already but I figured it would be a good idea to sub to him. I saw that 8 speed video come on my feed and I almost didn't watch it....

I looked the pan up,it doesn't list it as fitting a 1500,but i can't see why it wouldn't work on the 8HP70 or 8HP75 in the trucks,as it's listed as fitting the Jeeps with a 6.4,and i think they use the HP70 or HP75 in them

I just started my truck up for the first time in about a month. 0 piston slap, 0 startup rattle, 0 ticks. SS 0w40 could be a second Hemi Honey.

Wait - who said SS didn't eliminate tick a few years back? That tick came back after awhile.

Then we started speculating if it was lack of POE base stock or AN in (as a substitute) in SS, being all PAO base oil? Remember that?

I was planning to try HPL SC 0W-30 (PAO base with AN added) until RL went on sale again recently, and I bought some more 5W-30.

tj and others, but it gets funky here as some hemi ticks are more susceptible to viscosity and some are more susceptible to additives. My truck is one like tj's, 5w20 and 5w30 redline were both good against tick but the more stout 10w30 redline was ticking the entire time. As crazy as this sounds, I believe the trucks that are more out of tolerance do better with additives, and the lesser ticks do better with viscosity. I wonder, how many different 0w40 have you tried Corey?

My truck was ticking like a whack sewing machine and the first time it went silent was on another 20 weight, so clearly viscosity isn't the issue. Corey experience was different.

HPL SC 0w30 uses esters as well in equal amounts. I believe its around 10% each

Hence my great, low-risk experiment - short-circuited by a springtime Red Line sale! lol

You still running SC, Trav? You never had a ticker, though.
I just changed mine to experiment with a new mobil 1 oil. Giving ESP X4 0w40 a shot this time around. I dont expect much change but figured id try it out

Also i have discovered the SP M1 FS 0w40 does not contain esters or ANs so im not sure id run it in a ticker. The additive package is stout but it shears alot but resists oxidation for a long time per the PSDC from lake speed jr

Its mobils latest and seemingly greatest offering yet. Its a 50/50 mix of PAO and GTL and esters. They advertise as using a "next generation cleaning agent". Its also porsche A40 and C40 approved. Its using some sort of advanced VII as well because the VI is 201 and it does not shear. Im thinking it may be a diblock polymer and from what i read they are pretty advanced. They do much more in lower quantities.

No tick, its smooth as can be with 138k miles

So now ESP is ESP 4? Oh man Corey plug your ears like 9 bucks a quart. We have any uoa or voa? I see esp 3 out there, was there an evolution and the latest is esp4?

The russians got one! It looks the same as ESP x3 but its definately different as the revision numbers on the bottles are different

To make it even more confusing the current esp line is

ESP x2 0w20
ESP 0w30
ESP 5w30
ESP x4 0w40

They also have C40 GT which is either espx3 in a new bottle or its somehow different from esp x4

Man I hope the formula is better then the focus group who is hanging these names on it, lol.

Is that 0w30 stout as well? Why you chose 0w40?
