So my console tells me my right rear brake light is out even though it isn't. I've checked the wiring and plugs for damage and reseated them all but still no luck. Is there a way I can trace out the problem? What do I look for? What signal voltage flags the computer? I don't think it is the brake pedal switch or fluid sensor or it would tell me all brake lights don't work. Anyone seen this? Any ideas?

All brake lights actually work, including the third. But my display says the right one is out when I start the truck. All bulbs are original. No LEDs.

It’s kind of a pain, but I’d pull the bulbs and make sure all contacts are clean and that there are no crimped or broken wires. Might have a contact or wire that’s connected just enough to light but not enough to register as present. 3rd brake light would be a starting point.

Best,

every time my center light goes out it says the right one is out on my dash

Same.... I don't think the system is specific about the location and just gives the right one as an example. Either that or both our trucks are programmed the same wrong way :)

After 10+ years I just had my center one go out for the second time. First time was about two months after getting the truck and was due to water getting in. I was happy to see that my Home Depot parking lot handyman repair of some rubber weather-stripping was still keeping water out and the bulb just failed due to age.

Even though you have stock tail lights, there are some stock tails that are LED's, and if even one single LED failed, it will throw a code.
