2019 Ram 3500 6.7 Cummins.

My tailgate latch won’t release on one side. I took the cover off to flip the manual releases switch and that broke off as well. Now I have no way to even drop the tailgate to replace the latch. Without that release switch how am I supposed to get it dropped so I can replace the parts?

There is a cable or rod (called link in picture below) that runs from the center tailgate release handle to each the locking tab. Use a pair of pliers and GENTLY pull on that cable while pushing the tailgate a bit towards the front of the vehicle. you may have to disconnect the rod from the handle itself. Lock tab should release.

This is a Chev, but Ram are similar

Gain access from inside the tailgate, once you remove the cover you should find a couple of long rods that go from the center of the gate to the latches.
Tug the rods towards the center , and that should release the latch.

Dang electronical devices invading every perfectly fine, good , normally operated thing there was .

Wire it up and add some more modules , so we can have an additional thirty points of failure.

My next truck will be a late 70s at most . Technology is great , however it can be great for someone else.
