Tailgate LED bar

I recently purchased a tailgate LED bar with reverse. I have everything hooked up except for wire that controls reverse. When I take rear light out how do I determine which wire I tap into?

Have someone sit in the truck with it in reverse then test the wire. If you don't have anyone. I didn't have any available at the time so I put my key in the on postion without starting the truck and put the emergency brake on. Then I put it in reverse and tested the wires.

I used the exact method for all my reverse lighting endeavors.

And believe it or not....if you use a lil common sense and take the proper safety precautions...the objective can be accomplished with out any kids or dogs being ran over.

Guilty of this as well haha, but I also chock the wheels and hurry lol.

That I didn't know. When I did it I had the column shifter so it wasn't to bad.

should be white with a pink trail pull the light housing to check

Or you could connect all the wires before you mount the strip to test it.... and leave teh strip on the ground near the drivers side so you can see it when you brake / reverse.

I like to test them before I mount them in case there is an issue... because then it is a ***** to get off.

I just attached the reverse wire to my tail light when I did this mod on my 2011

I've been known to use a cinder block on the brake with the engine off to test the brake lights though!

Use the reverse light wire from the 7 pin trailer plug.

I second what crash68 said however I would go a step further. I got this adaptor, then spliced the reverse light into it so I didn't have to touch the wiring for the truck. The reverse wire is the center pin. Works great.
