So, had a couple 4th gens now. One thing I never got answered is this, how does the PCM know you're going sideways?

Explained: when I turn off TCS as long as I'm in a straight line I can spin my tires til no end. The second I start going sideways the TCS kicks in no matter if it's off or not.

I think that's the stability management system. It will use all manner of algorithms and sensors, (wheel speed, steering angle, maybe even some kind of gyroscopic data), and then starts it's corrective actions. With the fly-by-wire systems, you are only asking the truck to do what you want, the computer then decides if it's possible, safe, etc...

In my wife's Nissan, it is called the yaw sensor. It measures lateral movement. This, with the sensors that measures wheel speed at each wheel vs actual speed. From all this data the computer can figure out if wheels are spinning, sliding, about to skid or lock up and engage the abs....Or at least that's how it was explained to me by the Nissan dealership. Her yaw sensor went **** up. $800 to replace. I just gotta figure out where it is so I can do it.

Yes, there is a yaw sensor in the RAM. Turning TCS off doesn't affect stability control, which is what you probably feel kicking in. The yaw sensor is usually mounted to the transmission hump under the console or seat.

Are you saying you can't spin the tires on your Eco?

Gotcha. Tires spun easy on the Hemi but only if I was going straight and TCS was off.
