The passenger side heat shield. One bolt is definitely broken off at the head, the other should be grabbable with some vice grips. Drivers side seems intact. I hit it all with PB Blaster and gonna let it sit.

Got my buddy coming over with the MIG. Looks like I’m for a real treat this week. Wish me luck.

Getting the broken studs out of the pass side with a welder was the easiest part of installing headers lol.

With a welder that knows what they are doing it's cake honestly.

Make sure to either get the manifold planed or surface ground flat before reinstall

I already have a set of shorty headers, ARP bolts, and Felpro gaskets. Also have spare nuts and washers for the busted OEM bolts, just need the MIG to remove them.

Hopefully NOT BBK ;)

You may also run into some fitment/alignment issues using shorty's.
Just ensure the balls on the manifolds seat really well into the cat pipe sockets.

Once you dry test fit, I'd lube up the sockets with some Permatex Ultra Copper and then evenly bolt down.

This sealant will not affect anything.... ask me how I know :)

Make sure you have some liquid wrench of the consumption kind on hand for the job as well.

Spring for a set of Remflex 6022 gaskets instead of the felpro's.Good luck with installing them shorties, they make installing a set of long tubes easy.

I did 1 set of shorties for a buddy, never again, and i have a hell'va lot better selection of hand tools then most guys do.I'd install 2 sets of long tubes before i'd install another set of shorties. ;)
Brother.... when my new-ish rig needs new manifolds I'm going BD Diesel (if in warranty), or bite it with LT's and HP Tuners.

Wish I knew about the preferred Remflex over the Felpros, but such is the way of things. They are also the correct gaskets, just not the preferred ones I guess ‍♂️

Why not just keep the felpro's on hand or sell them, and get a set of the Remflex gaskets, they aren't that much money, and trust me,you don't want to have to remove those shorties to replace a gasket.BTW what brand shorties did you buy

@Wild one Well, I’m headed to the friends house tomorrow afternoon so the Remflex gaskets aren’t gonna make it in time unfortunately. And since I’ve got only tomorrow and Friday to get this accomplished with being on vacation (headed outta town this weekend), I gotta work with the friend with the MIG and a hell of a garage full of tools and on his timeline with work as well.

I picked up a set of Powergo Motorsports shorties off FB Marketplace for a song, brand new in box with all the new Grade 8.8 bolts and gaskets. I scoured and poured over the headers and couldn’t really find anything amiss. All the welds looked good both outside and in. I did some research and much like the rest of the shorties out there, they have their issues, but have a decent rating and reputation so I figured what the hell. This is in fact kind of a “band aid” fix with the stock manifolds going to shorties, and I know I won’t get much if any performance gains (because also the cats are restrictive as well), but I had to get rid of that damn exhaust leak clacking/tapping that sounds so horrendous.

I wasn’t in the market for LTs and such nor did I have the cash for the BD Diesel kit, and at this price I couldn’t really say no. All said, I’m in it for shy of $300.

FYSA, my truck is 2014 HEMI 1500 4x4 with almost 160k miles as my daily driver, and with a pair of teenagers coming up, it is going to their first driving experiences and need to keep the Ram up and fresh for a while longer.

Additionally, the whole suspension is getting a refresh with a full Eibach Pro Kit and new OEM front lower control arms (ball joints and bushing are shot). The rest of the suspension is G2G already with Zone UCAs, SuspensionMaxx front extended endlinks, Hellwig rear sway bar, Sinergy Suspension JT rear extended endlinks, Clayton Off-road JT rear upper and lower control arms and rear track bar, with a Zone 1.5” body lift as well (on 35/12.5/17s).

Any brick and mortar speed shops local to you,as they'll probably have the gaskets on hand,at least my local speed shops do.I'm not familiar with those shorties, but for that price, they're worth a shot. You can get ebay long tubes for cheap to.

Those Header look like BBK knockoffs, beware you will be doing them again when they fail, at least based on what has been posted about BBK failures.

Honestly I would not **** with the truck if you plan to take it on vacation, you have no room for "oh ****" if you are leaving for vacation right after trying to do the headers.

If it was just manifolds (OE or BD) no problem, go for it!

P.S. have you welder friend weld the washer to the broken stud first, then weld the nut to the washer and fill in the center.

Just doing some prep work with removing fender liners and exhaust manifold heat shielding. As you can see on the heat shields, driver and passenger sides, the rear 2 bolts have sheared (on both sides). At a minimum I have to (weld) extract at least 2 bolts as the shank appears to have broken at the head.

I have additionally heat shielded the passenger side heater hoses. As well as hit all the bolts with PB Blaster again.

The real fun will commence in a couple hours.

That top left bolt should come out with some vice grips. If the other one looks like that, I don't think it'll need to be welded.

I have 2 bolts that are sheared at the head. The rear most on passenger side and front most on drivers side.

We were at them trying to get a washer/nut to weld on these 2 but to no avail so we called ita night.

Hopefully better luck today.
