im looking to order a thermostat next as a simple and useful mod, someone i know told me that a 180 will not benefit me, and that i should get a 160 degree thermostat. any information you guys can tell me about this? by the way i live in the desert where temperatures can reach up to 122F (50 Celsius)

Run the 180, you can get away with a 170 but anything lower and you'll throw a code for engine temp too low if it's not super hot outside. You could run 2 different T-stats based on seasons but that's more work than most people are willing to do. It'll also depend on what you have your fan settings at as well, drop the lower t-stat in and adjust your hi/low fan settings and you'll be in good shape even in the heat.
