$50 for the standard NJ plate with 7 spaces to personalize.
Anywhere from $125-$250 (if I remember right) for 5 spaces and an image (football team, birds, flowers, etc) plus annual renewal of $25 (again from memory)
The standard is a one-time fee, no renewal fees.

Here in Cali its 50 bucks for personalized black plates also.
I went thru AAA in March, figured out what I wanted it to say, payed the $$ and waited. Of course due to Covid they took forever.
In july got a call from AAA, yaa yipee yahoo, scooted my butt ovr there, lady pulled em out....waa waaa, NOT BLACK PLATES!!
Got sent back, still waiting for my damn plates...lol
Spent 50 bucks and will probably wont get them till my registration is due in January....
Guess I have to remind myself I've sure pissed away 50 bucks on waaaay more frivolous stuff...lol

For the the too young or the unenlightened, BR549 is the "phone number" for Junior Samples used cars, which "advertized" on the old Hee Haw comedy show. It was a hoot!

Califunny has a great personalized plate process. You can try different names and instantly know if they are already in use, you can select from different plate themes and order black or white plates.
