I am considering purchasing a Ram 1500 (2013)...I am having a problem deciding between the sport model or the Laramie. This will be a crew cab. I want something comfortable (wife has to have heated seats). I like the aggressive style of the sport with the performance hood. But the Laramie looks good too...lol

For those of you who own these models what are your thoughts? I am going to test drive tomorrow....

Thanks

I ordered the Sport because I don't like chrome, but either vehicle is awesome! The "sport hood" isn't functional so your paying 700 bucks for the look. I got everything but it, tow mirrors, and NAV. I personally think vehicle NAV sucks and will Bluetooth my phone to the 8.4A and use its constantly updated NAV when I need it.

I have the Longhorn Laramie.....I love it. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you get the Laramie CC. It has everything you could ever want.

I really liked the big horn because I had some different options. The alpine system was available and so was the larger radio.
Things that killed it for me.
Center console
ALL THAT CHROME!
Maybe a few other little things I can't think of now

I was just like you - thinking about the sport or the laramie. I ended up ordering the Laramie because I wanted the split front bench seat. The sport only comes with buckets, and I'm 6'2" tall, so the center console impacted the leg room enough to make not getting the buckets the better choice for me. I've had my truck for only a few days, but it is awesome and even better than I expected. The weather was very hot here today - almost 90 degrees (MUCH higher than normal for this time of year in Eastern PA). I got the heated and cooled leather, and the cooling on the seats today worked great.

I agree with Chewy - on the sport the optional hood is big bucks for something that really doesn't enhance the performance.

I would strongly recommend you get an 8 speed though. The Hemi and 8 speed combo is amazing.

This is what I looked at the other day. Really nice truck! Does yours have the stitching on the seats? Simply awesome interior.

Mine has the stitching in the seats and on the dash and door panels. The interior of this truck is more like a luxury car. I have owned loaded F150's, a Silverado, a loaded Tahoe and my RAM is SOOOO much nicer inside it's just crazy.

I have the lone star model (slt-only available in TX) but fully loaded with leather, nav, power seats, etc. etc. I love it, it came with chrome bumpers with dual exit exhaust. Me personally I like the little bit of chrome to accent my black truck. But that's just my opinion.

I got a big horn loaded with every option. I wanted the chrome bumper because bugs wash off easy and I don't have to worry about pebbles nicking my paint. I got the lower model to save money since my truck was a second vehicle for me and not my daily driver. In hindsight, I wish I had gotten the Laramie. The sport looks sexy but I like the classic look of a truck. When I trade mine in I'm going with the Laramie 4x4.

It has designs in the leather, yes. Its not stitched though. They somehow cut or etch the design into the leather, which I think is much better than the stitching. You don't ever have to worry about it coming apart. It is very nice!

I went with Laramie because I do like chrome and the interior is much nicer than other trims at the time. Now since then of course they have added the Longhorn and the Limited for a year. I am not sure where the "hate chrome" revolution started but the details is what makes the higher end trims more money so if you don't care about those it may not matter but ideally for resale you will do best to get the trim that needs the least amount of add ons to meet your needs and wants. By that I mean if you go with a cheaper trim then add a bunch of stuff it would be better to go up to the next trim up most times. You can load up a Big Horn but it won't be a Sport and you can load up a sport but it won't be a Laramie and so forth. Get what you like in the end that is what matters. Way too many people don't get what they want and end up trading in to get what they wanted a year later.

Get the 8 speed and 3.92 gears w/LSD if you can!!!!

I have the sport. Like Chewy, I didn't want all that chrome. :****: Don't get me wrong I like it in moderation, but that big front maw in chrome was just too much. I also saw no reason to pay for a non-functining sport hood--if I want ram air I'll buy a Vararam air grabber. :buffer:
I'm 6'3" and the center console has no impact on driver leg room--it just limits you to carrying 5 beasts my size instead of shoe-horning in a sixth. :dogpile: I like the console for the storage and the floor shifter. True the Sport can be mistaken for an Express from the exterior, but they come without the second glove box or the center console.
Oh, and the dealer was willing to negotiate on the sport far lower than either the Laramie or Big Horn. :rockit:

Any way you slice it you can't go wrong with buying as much RAM as you can afford. :naughty:

Sport also has the projector headlights and different grill than the Express. It's just got the same front and rear bumper. Sport also has painted door handles and mirrors which the Express does without and you can option out a Sport MUCH higher than an Express.

I like them all for different reasons, but the Sport fit my needs for now.

^ +1 100%

We got the sport largely for the options mixed with the body colored bumpers and mirrors. Covered in 3M film we're confident the front bumper will stand up to rocks and bugs better than all the chrome bumpers on used Rams we looked at when we started our shopping. They all had rust at each pock mark.

To be honest, we didn't even know there was such a thing as the "Express" until I joined this forum. Why would the salesman want to show us a less expensive model with 95% of what we wanted instead of the Sport with 110% of what we wanted for more moolah? :Stupid Me:

Well they did not have a sport on the lot and only a quad cab in the Laramie so I drove that...I really liked how it drove and how it handled. I like the buckets but I can also see the use of the 60/40 too..decisions lol

We really wanted the 60/40 to start, then realized we'd be ready for another vehicle by the time our kids or their friends were old enough to sit up front. So, more upscale center console with the Sport it was.
