I got a Recon LED 3rd brake light and it let water into my cab when it rained. I thought the seal was kinda ******. I thought about just adding some more of the molding tape or something to seal it better, does anyone have a better suggestion?

I've heard of problems with our trucks leaking around the 3rd brake light. I want to say there was a recall for the seal. Might not be due to the Recon.

No, it was the recon b/c it was fine and the second I put the recon on it leaked. (first time it's rained since the install) and I even thought the seal was kinda ****** on it.

Not cheap, but cheaply made. That's frustrating. I'm not sure what to tell you on putting a better seal on it. Maybe try some place like Autozone?

Yeah, I've never been impressed with Recon's quality for the money. I did, however, buy this light used (got it for about 1/2 price, and it's been professionally tinted), but the foam around it looks perfect, it's just that the screws were getting tight before the light was real tight.

And I don't think the previous owner sold it b/c it leaked, he sold the truck.
I'm gonna look at it here soon and maybe dig around my parent's garage for something to seal it up with. I could use a small amount of clear silicone, b/c I really shouldn't need to get it back out but I don't know if I wanna do that.

clear silicone blows.

I'd find some foam tape over silicone (for this application).

Yeah like the standard badges stuff. But I don't get what's wrong with silicone? More permanent but it should last a few years no prob.

clear silicone will dry white. that will look like ***. :D

If you are going to use any silicone, use black - GE Silicone II.

OK. If I do silicone it will not be visible. Like I'll take the light out and then stick it in with the silicone. But I'll get black prob. :D:D

I sealed it in yesterday with a 3/16" bead of black silicone II. Should be good to go!
