Thanks for the reply.

Understand & agree.

All maintenance in Ram / FCA computers as they have done the maintenance.

Assuming, "not nodded your engine" = I did not abuse the engine in anyway. Assuredly I didn't. Never would do so. But imagine that is an angle of the "investigation". Generally don't trust the process. So much I can't see. FCA behinds the scenes communications with dealership. Outta go my way. Two to three weeks they'll make a decision.

Sorry, fat fingets. I meant modded, as in tuner and other performance add ons.

Kalbo - I've got the same year and mileage. Truck just threw a misfire code, local mechanic said bad compression, second opinion said new engine or new truck (was worried the cam and head job might lead to new troubles).

Long story short, dealership says my warranty is out (i guess it's the SOONER of 5 years or 100k) and they'll give me $9k for a trade in.

The latest curveball is that my check engine light is OFF. Not sure if it was a onetime misfire? Would the low compression not cause continual misfiring?

Debating new truck or to just ride it out.

so where are u seeing all these failures???? whats that % to trucks sold with that motor? why dont u compare that to ALL of the other manufactures engines failing. and to top it off you dont know the truck owners driving habits.
What’s the percentage? I have no idea but I will tell you I work in government and the public safety departments are having lifter failures in the Hemi’s across the board. Most failures are under 100k; its so bad they were having operational delays.

Any engine noises of loud metallic ticking or knocking?

Yes, a tick during most start ups after the truck has sat a while. Seems to go away after it warms up. I had the exhaust manifold tick repaired on one side, having trouble discerning if it's the same tick or not. Also had a compression test that showed 50 psi for one cylinder... makes me think it wasn't a one-off sensor error.

New guy. Old guy. Not engine smart.

2015 Ram 5.7. 88K miles. All maintenance completed on schedule. Synthetic oil. Believe it is 5/20. Could be 5/30. Either way, Ram chose oil during oil changes.

Accelerating onto highway, engines lost acceleration / power, as if loss of fuel. Plenty of fuel in tank. "Idiot" indication on dash, "electronic throttle failure". Eased to side of highway. Stopped engine. Would not restart. Towed to Ram.

Ram guys say engine blew a rod.

So, both 5 year / 100K drive train and Max warranty should cover my Ram problems.

Waiting in line for "investigation" before ordering new engine.

Questions...your experience and insights please.

- My Ram engine problem likely related to the cam / lifter issue / oil issue I see in so many threads?

- Any reason Ram would not stand by warranties? Investigation, I understand. Manufacture wants to know what part(s) failed. Supplier issue(s).

- Does Ram replace with new or reworked engine?

- What else should I be considering?

Thank you for your insights and thoughts.

Update.

37 days later have my Ram back. New engine. FCA/Ram picked up the tab. Rental covered.

Piston in cylinder #6 came apart. Part of piston found in adjacent cylinder. Metal parts found in intake manifold. A number of fuses blew.

Two year unlimited warranty on new engine.

Inconvenience of not having my Ram aside, came out pretty well me thinks.

I really love seeing a successful dealership story, would like to see more of that. Congratulations on the New Engine:)
I wonder what would make a piston come apart?

Stress fracture from machining more than likely......no radius on tooling.....sharp cuts.
Also could be porosity in material machined.

Dropped a valve?

Tried inquiring a couple times regarding cause, but service adviser either did not know or was tight lipped. As things were going my way, I didn't push it much. But, surely wished I knew more. Fascinating, to know, I think.

And did they ask about your oil and demand receipts?

No request for any documents. As all maintenance has been done by the dealer, and was completed IAW maintenance schedule. Three dealers did the maintenance over the past five years. So, everything was available in the RAM computer system, is my thought.

In any case, all maintenance documents in the glove box, had they asked.

100% relieved FCA/Ram fully covered the engine failure / rental.

This seems to be the golden ticket when it comes down to warranty work; if the dealership has done ALL the maintenance they have no reason/excuse to deny warranty.
