timing chain tensioner compressing

i dont want to break my tensioners but im not sure how to fully compress them so i can put a pin in them, the little peice with the teeth is sticking out and im unsure how to get that to go back in. any tips would be much appreciated

well i just pulled the bolts off and didnt worry about compressing the tensioners

I just use a set of slip-joint pliers and compress it to get an allen key into the hole.
