Nice tall tires with a moderate width going metric I see no reason to go over a 235mm or 245mm width.
A 245/85r16 would be over 32" tall,
then a 245/85r18 clocks in at close to 34 1/2" tall.

Looks like you’re towing round bales so you need good strong tires with tough sidewall

The biggest diameter tire that won’t rub. In the narrowest cross section available.

The smallest diameter wheel that fits the brakes on the truck. In the narrowest width that meets the tire specifications.

This would be heavily biased for off-road. Other uses, different answers.

That is a 4 wheeled wagon with a front steering axle, almost no tongue weight.
Max speed is normally around 25 mph.

All depends upon what your trying to accomplish.

Functionality, ascetics, and cost :waytogo:

I put a set of LT285/65R20 BFG K02's on my stock 20" rims and love them.
They are a tad wider and taller, and heavier too being a 10-ply, than the OEM supplied size, but there is zero rubbing at full turn stop-to-stop.

They were installed, road-force balanced and didn't require a lot of weight on any corner to balance them out.

I personally prefer more tire than rim. I'll not knock anyone's choices, but if I bag a pothole at highway speeds I don't worry about how my bigger LT tire or rim took the hit (usually...lol).

Plus I can drive over pretty much any curb and park my truck wherever I make a spot, or pull out of a drive-thru lineup over curbs with little difficulty if I change my mind.

Having huge and wide rims with rubber bands for tires on call it a 6,000lb truck, and then thinking a standard P-Metric off-brand tire (usually is the case) is going to provide reliable durability and protection for the huge rims someone just paid thousands for, well, that's a lot of faith, I guess.

Then factor that many who opt for the wide rims, skinny tires, and wide overall stance also use wheel spacers too, and that's another whole level of faith in a tire/rim/spacer combination, in my opinion.

My $0.02

Width doesn't help with potholes and curbs but the height will.
The wide rubber actually hurts traction in many situations especially in the rear on pickups.
Almost none of them can back up any kind of slope in 2wd on wet grass.

Tire sizes are a personal choice thing, whatever floats your boat.

I use summer & winter wheels where I live because the snow gets a bit crazy sometimes.
Plus, living in a rural area, the plows are often as much as 36 hours after the snow arrives.
My winter wheels are BFG All Terrain KO2 in a 245/70R17 .
I've always preferred to use narrower tires for the winter months or off-roading.

YMMV

I'm a bigger tire fan, like the sidewall look, as long as they dont stick out two feet past the fender and make the truck look like a roller skate

I've had 255/80R17 and 285/70R17 on my 1500, same wheels and suspension. Each had its strengths and weaknesses as do the tire brand/models (STMaxx, TerrainContact AT) . I'm likely going back to 255/80R17 after these 285's wear out.
