Hey all, looking for some, hopefully real world experience from some of you. I just got a brand spanking new 2017 Ram 1500 Express CC. This is my daily driver, although I don't have a commute since I work at home. I do love driving this truck a want to squeeze some mopar out of it. What I have done this far is very simple, added an S&B CAI and a Borla ProXS Muffler. What I plan on adding in the very near future is a bored out throttle body.

My thoughts after that is to tune or not tune? With what has been done or will be done will it be advantageous? One other side note is, I most likely will not run 91 or 93 Octane. I have only filled up with 89 no ethanol.

My initial want, is to purchase the Diablo T2 Tuner with the unlocked PCM with the Hemifever custom engine and 8sp trans tune.

I'm basically wanting to know if the tune will be of benefit based on what mods will have been done?

Yes to the tuning. You are going to gain more from the tuning alone than from the intake, throttle body, and muffler swap combined. Not only is the tuning going to give you 30-35hp/tq to the wheels, but the quicker throttle response, faster/firmer shifts, and increased driveability are all very noticeable as well.

I Think he won’t see quite those numbers as he only wants to run 89 though

I’m also interested in this. Also wondering what some of the negatives from a tune can be.
I guess my thinking is what can go wrong from tuning since essentially it is getting tuned to do more than what it was designed to do ? Harder on transmission ? Etc

Softer oem , slipping shifts that appease female drivers are actually harder on the transmission than quicker , firmer shifts ...

I had 2011 1500. Get the tune, I also had the HEMIFEVER tune I ran 93. It makes such a huge difference it's incredible. I got everything from Matt and Sean and had 0 issues. You actually have more upgrades than me as well,I did not have a new throttle body. You should definitely can a catch can though. I currently have 2016 ram will be using my old trinity and just getting PCM from Matt at Moes.

in my opinion if your not gonna get a custom tune then dont buy a tuner. the preloaded tunes are disappointing.

Yes on the tuning. Yes on the custom tune.

No on the bigger throttle body. Your stock one flows more than enough to handle the mods you have installed, plus the tuning upgrade. If you were to cam the truck and add headers then I'd say yes to a larger TB.

As far as the powertrain, these bolt on mods won't hurt it. The gains aren't huge but it's where the gains are seen in the RPM band and reducing a lean air/fuel ration condition is where it makes the huge difference in driveability, throttle response and top end power.

In fact, the tuning will firm up the shifts which means the transmission won't be slowing down and slipping between shifts. This will reduce heat build up and extend the life of the transmission.

Go for it.
