Salvaged a dryer canister, and thought it might make a good oil catch can.
I think it will work great, but compared to what everyone else is using, it just seems a little excessive. LOL

It’s 2.5” diameter, and almost 12” overall length.

On the plus side, it does have internal baffles.

Lol, I was digging through some pneumatic parts in my garage and found a Watts filter + housing for compressed air. I've already sorted out how to get it to work, but it would be kinda industrial looking under the hood.

Weld on a mounting bracket, give it some paint and well, remember to dump it every 20k! Actually, fab a sensor that shoots you a reminder. You might be the first to create some badassery out of a catch can if you can pull it all off!

The only reason to not use this would be where to mount it and the aesthetics of how it looks installed. Go for it and let us know how it turns out

Here’s what I came up with for mounting.
5eacf1461690579e40b2e7d825f9276f.jpg

I used some aluminum angle stock to fabricate a mounting bracket, installed two riv-nuts into the vertical part or the core support, and bolted the bracket in place. At the moment, the can is held to the bracket with zip ties, and not plumbed in. I need to go shopping and get some better hose, and try to find some quick release band clamps.

I did hook it up for a short test(that’s when I discovered the hose I had, couldn’t handle the vacuum), and the can seems to function quite well.

Build yourself some hard lines for plumbing it.A couple feet of aluminium 3/8" fuel line hose is fairly cheapthen you only need a couple short rubber lines to plumb it all together

That’s probably what I’ll end up doing.
Once I get the lines made, I’ll pull the can out and hit it with some black paint.

Tranny fluid hose or high pressure fuel hose will work good to tie your hard lines into your catch can.

Did you put that sensor in it? Just screwing with ya. Can't believe you put it in. Let's see that catch can dump after a couple K to make sure it's working. You now have the largest catch can in the universe my friend!

My phone died, so I didn’t get a pic, but I checked the can today.
Only been about 400 miles, but there was a noticeable amount of oil in the can.
So, it appears to be working. I’ll check it again it a few thousand miles, and make sure to get dump pics.

Changed the oil over the weekend, and dumped the can. Had a lot of condensation in the oil. Guess that’s what I get for making a lot of short trips in the cold.

You didn't have to do that, you were good for another year at minimum! Lol.
