For what it's worth from the AAA . And yes I switched to Top Tier.

https://newsroom.aaa.com/2016/07/aaa-not-gasoline-created-equal/

Among brands tested, non-TOP TIER gasolines caused 19 times more engine deposits than TOP TIER brands after just 4,000 miles of simulated driving. Such carbon deposits are known to reduce fuel economy, increase emissions and negatively impact vehicle performance, particularly on newer vehicles. To protect vehicle investments, AAA urges drivers to use a gasoline that meets TOP TIER standards for engine cleanliness and performance.

Too bad the article doesn’t list which brands that did better and the ones that didn’t.

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but man, do they ever come up with some great ideas.

You all need to read some studies on Octane ratings and detergent values. Today’s engines aren’t anything like they were when I was growing up. You could a take Big block, index the plugs, run a cooler plug with a higher gap, advance the timing some 9mm wiresa,,,yada,,yada,,,,yada.
Put in what the manufacturer recommends as timing values, anti knock sensors and better internals all take care of themselves. Where you want to spend money is on good Oil, Amsoil, Royal Purple etc..... Andy the best oil filters and maybe a catch can. That my friends is where you spend you’re money besides most engine wear happens at start-up before oil flow is achieved so maybe consider a pre Oiler also

I normally use Shell. When I was going through the process of getting a custom tune the tuner looked at the data I sent him from my truck. He said whatever gas I was using was pretty bad. I was using Costco. After that I ran the gas tank almost empty and refilled with shell. The next time I sent him the data he could tell I switched brands and said the fuel looked good. He recommends using shell or BP for gas. I knew someone who has a hellcat and he normally used chevron gas in it. After telling him what the tuner told me about the fuel. Next time he filled it up he tried shell and said he could tell the difference between shell and chevron gas in his hellcat.

I use whatever gas is being dispensed at the station that is convenient for me at that time. Several years, a few trucks, and a million miles later, I'm still doing it. It's a truck.

And I don't use any additives, nor do I get any super-exotic oil and change it every 3500 miles.

Gas at the local gas station, oil at the local Valvoline when the indicator says to, and no additives ever, of any type. And we use strictly e10 up here. The horror!!

I've been filling at Costco 92 octane, for a number of years. Never had and issue. Couldn't tell a difference between Costco gas and Shell or Chevron, other than the weight of my wallet.

I'm assuming (yeah I know lol), that all the top tier are similiar in results. But your right, some could be better than others. I am going with Shell for the moment. Running 87 and mpg is good. Long trailer tow coming up, will probably go to 89 for that.

Have fun.

I usually fill up with 87 from Samsclub. Its usually the cheapest in my area. I put in lucas oil gas treatment every 3 months to give me piece of mind. The lucas treatment almost pays for itself because of the gas mileage difference. I get about 2 mpg better when added.

I run Shell 89 here in Canada 99.9% of the time unless necessity dictates. I was running Premium 91 but read that the rate of combustion could possibly cause damage to your engine in the long run and that it was better to run the recommended octane. I’m a little nuts that way so I switched to the 89 octane.
We run winter gas up here in the winter and it blows no matter what. Can’t wait for our three weeks of summer lol.
And for what it’s worth I lined up once years ago for gas at Costco and only wanted to punch myself in the head when it was all over because I think I saved 4 (Canadian) cents a litre. That works out to about -25 cents a litre USD lol.
So long story short Shell it is for me.

I use 87 in my 2019 Ram Limited plus Aces IV fuel additive. Not cheap but works great! Raises octane up to 102 & keeps everything clean & well lubed. Bndautomotive.com. Also use it in my Charger Scat Pack with 91 octane.

Top tier, and octane rating are of course two different things. Here in NY I run Sunoco 89-91 in my 12’ Power Wagon. I wouldn’t. Run a Shopping center Fuel at 93 Octane for any reason

There is nothing wrong with Cosco gas....in many cases...the truck delivering to Cosco drives down the street and delivers to other name brand stations as well. Been using Cosco fuel for years....still do in wife's SUV but since buying my Ram I use Fred Myers because Cosco doesn't sell 89.

https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9230/~/costco-gas-station-faqs
Ya do not really need 89, in fact you will get less mileage with 89 than you would with 87.l And unless you are some kind of racers, heavy load puller/hauler, etc you will never actually tell the difference between the two grades. good luck.
