First time posting, About to hit 200k on my 4th gen, havent done a transmission service on it (fluid flush). Is it wise to attempt this now? Or keep running as is? She hasn't given me any issues thus far. I appreciate the feedback.

No transmission ever died from fresh fluid. The reason that old tale got started about not changing old fluid is because shops don't like dealing with customers who will wait till their transmission is already slipping then bring it in for a fluid change thinking they can fix a dead transmission with fresh juice. The shop knows if they do the service on a basically dead transmission and then it finishes dying a week later the customer will claim it was the shop's fault and they'll have to waste precious time arguing with an angry fool over a job that had almost no profit to begin with. Easier to just make up a story about how it's a bad idea to change the fluid.

If your transmission is still working correctly and you want to keep it working then change the fluid. If it's already misbehaving then it's probably already in bad shape and new juice won't harm it but probably won't fix it either.

It is a two video proccess just to check the fluid after you do your flush.. So once you figure out the flush, do this process twice just to check the fluid level. Once after flush and again after you driven some miles. Awe the days of dipsticks, those were the good ol days.

The cooler is already full Mike, and the thermostat is designed with a small built in leak even when closed,so it doesn't thermal shock the transmission when it opens.
I've never had the 8 speed need more fluid after a drive,if you follow the green sheets instructions, and level the transmission.

Yes to Drop the pan, change the filter and refill... As to power flushing heck no, as I understood what a transmission builder told me by power flushing trans at 100K that has never been serviced you risk dislodging bits that were not a problem when hidden in some corner, but once you power flush those bits come lose and float around that's when the bits get in to small places that can restrict ATF flow and when that happens your trans starts to die sometimes very quickly...

The 6 spd is an easy change. The 8 spd is a whole different animal. For those with the 8spds after the change if you get a bit of whine under acceleration after the change it's low on fluid. At least mine was the first time it was fixed after a leak and the dealer filled it and said it was good to go so a 2nd check after driving is a good idea.

Pay attention when removing and reinstalling the pickup filter, there's a little plastic seal you have to remove (if it doesn't come out with the straw) and also you have to make sure you seat the new one properly on reinstall. Won't be going anywhere if you get that wrong on reassembly - it won't harm anything but it's a waste of fluid & messy to have to drop the pan right away again. Don't freak out this isn't complicated I just want to save you some additional hassle.

Video's are not relevant as most of us assumed 8 speed cause you didn't mention it was the 6 speed. A must item is on eBay, put this in search bar there.

45/545/66/68RFE Steel Oil Filter Adapter

US $6.75

You need about 8 quarts for a pan drop and replace both trans filters. You will want that adapter and for less then twenty bucks it is a bargain for what it does. I'd recommend redline c+, great fluid for your transmission and is very compatible. It is pretty important to use the OEM Mopar sump filter, the one with the pink valve. Canister filter has some options, but usually Mopar OEM filters come in a 2 pack.

Curious as to why you would need this. I'm in the middle of changing the transmission solenoid (4 week wait on part) so I got time. I already took off the filters and didn't have any problem. Wouldn't the new filter come with this piece, but in plastic? I ordered the oem solenoid, oem 2 filters and got 10 litres of mopar atf+4 fluid, a felpro gasket and rtv gasket maker.
Thanks
