Ok I installed a transmission temp gauge in the truck today. I cut into the cooler line and put a tee in for the sensor. After finishing the job I realized that I put it in the line returning back to the transmission. Is it ok to leave it there or move it to the other line. With the sensor in the return oil line the transmission oil gets around 155. It also has a 3000 circle d Convertor in it.

Was that warmed up temp? That seems about right. Maybe a little low with how hot it's been here latly.

BTW. Where in Baton Rouge are you. I live in Prairieville

My sits about 165 or so unless I'm in traffic for a while.

You want it in the return line, it's warmer right after leaving the pump but that's not what's going into the trans.

I'm not 100% sure where I would put it. I was told you wanted it in the line going to the Cooler because it's the hottest oil. But is that the oil you want the reading off of is the return oil?

I would think you would want it in the return line to see how your trans is doing other wise your seeing how good the cooler is doing

The pump adds adiabatic heat to the oil over and above the temp generated in the trans, so yes, it is the hotter oil, but it's also being cooled and that is what is going into your trans. Specifically, you DO want to know how well the cooler is working because if the temps start climbing you know exactly what temp the fluid is that's lubricating your system. If you truly wanted to know the efficiency then you get a before and after cooler temp, but it's irrelevant for most people's needs unless you think the cooler isn't working properly/enough.

These trannys have a test port?

That's where my temp gauge is hooked up on my GTP and it's pretty close to what the scan tool says.

Nope, that would make it too easy and Chrysler can't let that happen :roflsquared:
