I was wondering if it's possibly to change the transmission from the 5 speed to the new 8 speed. I'm asking because I have a feeling my tranny is gonna crap out on my in the not so distant future. They way I drive was wondering if it's doable.

No easy swap due to the engine tune and trans tuning are tied together in the same PCM.

You would need to find a stand alone trans controller, capable of accepting ZF8 tuning parameters
Then have stock engine tune adjusted to read it as a manual. (to prevent trans programming error codes).
also need electronic shift knob, Electrical connections/harness, cooler lines, thermal management unit, new driveshaft...

The cost would be insane for parts/install/tuning
...better off buying a new 14' or 15'

Damn I didn't think that much was involved. Was thinking that the pcm would just needs to be flashed. Guess I'll just build up my 5 speed when the time comes.

After your stock rebuild, consider a deeper transmission pan from Moe's Performance, some Redline C+ ATF 3 transmission fluid for deeper protection and extended life of your disks/plates, possibly a SharaDon stage II valve body to make the shifting firmer (less friction-time, prevents thermal wear on the new plates), or even consider getting your transmission rebuilt to a custom standard by Mike at from L&M transmission. Several others have his trannies and could hook you up with contact information. Check out this thread about it.

Yea was planning to use L&M. Was just asking about the 8 speed because they are monster trans.
