Hey fellas,

I had a 2012 Ram 1500 that I installed a Trinity T-1000 on. It was great.

Now that I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie (5.7), I went to install my Trinity on it and got the error that the tune wasn't written. Called Diablosport and was informed that the PCM was locked and I could switch it out for an unlocked PCM for free.

My questions for you guys that may have gone through this is:

1. How difficult is it to swap the PCMs? I'm fairly mechanically inclined and should have the tools to do it. Would this me a novice/intermediate/advanced thing?

2. If I swap for an unlocked PCM and need to bring it to the dealership for service (I got the extended warranty), will they be able to tell the PCM has been switched and I've installed a tune (I will, of course, restore the original tune before I bring it to the dealership)?

3. Is this even worth doing at all? Should I sell the tuner for a few hundred bucks and get a new case for my pool cues instead? I like having the tuner on it mainly to turn the MDS off, but I also enjoy the increased throttle response and extra HP.

Sorry if this has been posted before. I seared around to try to find something and couldn't.

Thanks guys.

I have not done it yet. But I had a 11 1500 with the Trinity. Now I have 16 2500. I'm going to use the Trinity again. But what I will be doing is getting a new computer from Matt at Moes with the HEMIFEVER tune. So if it does have to go back to the dealer just swap the tuned one for the stock one and be done.

I believe $620 a big hit. So if your like me already spent 500 on the tuner.

To take the PCM off it's 3 bolts I believe and 2 wire harnesses.

From what I heard they can't tell if you swap the PCM. But other guys on here are saying they can tell if they check the millage so who knows. Sorry don't have a better answer.

Is it worth it I think so but that is a decision. I love how the truck responds after a custom tune.

The PCM also records the mileage as well as your odometer. If you change PCM's there is a chance that the dealer could check and compare the mileage they will see the difference. I have never heard of a dealer doing that but I would guess that if you had a realllly big warranty claim and they really didn't want to pay for it they would check the mileage. IMHO it's sort of a crap shoot. Pay your money-take your chances.
