Hey guys I have a 2017 ram 1500 and I’ve noticed the truck pulling to the left and wearing the outer tread on the tires so I got the tires rotated and an alignment done. It still seems to tilt the steering wheel to the left when I take my hands off the wheel and the truck will drift left. I’ve had two mechanics at two shops tell me everything in the front end is tight. It has aftermarket 20x12 wheels and 33x12.50 nitro ridge grapplers. I’m also going to attach pics of the alignment, and help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Which wheels wore on inside, front or rear? Have you owned since new? If it is rear wearing could be bad bearings, or if you are 2nd owner maybe someone overloaded too often and literally bent the axle housings, but that is not likely.

Hey! It’s the front tires, it’s wearing the outer tread. I’m the second owner.

Might still be bearings, or truck could have been in an unreported accident. It is possible to have a good alignment but then when the vehicle is actually going down the road to have a bad part. Brakes could be be dragging on one side causing pull. Perhaps someone else who has a similar set up will offer more help.

If you haven't yet, rotate the front tires to the rear. The caster, camber, and toe, were out a decent amount on the right. With the tire worn, that could be your pull.

I have a slight left pull that's annoying on my 2018. I've had the camber set right, and even have more caster in the left, which should counter left pull, but it hasn't. The scan tool says the steering sensor doesn't need calibration.

I think it's the electric steering on some of these trucks that causes the pull to one side.

Ram says the steering angle sensor needs reset with each alignment.

Drifting to the left and two front tires on outer edge may be two different things. In fact my OEM tires had the same thing, but it was so long ago I forgot the cause. I think it was improper psi. Awe now that I think about it the wear was in the middle scratch that.

It could be caliper dragging cause the drift, dunno. Bearings or ball joints, or something other.

front tire wear is happening on both front tires same time on outer edge?

Yes it’s happing the same on the outer edges. Everything is tight in the front end and the brakes on either side do not get hot.

I'm in the exact same boat as you but mine is pulling to the right pretty decently. I've had 2 alignments done and had the 2 shops look at the front end and they both said everything was fine. I even checked myself and a few guys from work did too and we couldn't find anything wrong. I have stock tires though but it's still wearing down the outside of my front right tire pretty good. I don't have any suggestions, I just figured I'd put my 2 cents in and wait for suggestions like you lol

Post up your alignment specs from the sheet the shop gave you so we can see what's going on.

If only the front right tire is wearing, the camber is off on that side, be it bent parts, or out of spec.

The specs are so wide from one extreme to the other, you can get all kinds of wear and pulling and still be in spec.

Almost all alignment guys will say everything is fine as long as the computer shows green for specs, when nothing could be farther from the truth.

It thrills them to have all green show up. They get paid for an alignment while not having to do anything.

A guy I knew had a tire shop and did alignments. He always set the toe in 1/4" or more to wear out the tires faster.

This was front wheel drive was just getting going good, and there were basically no adjustments to do other than toe in. He blamed the fast wear on front wheel drive, though it was his toe settings.

I had him do mine when he put on new tires. I drove it across the road to my place, checked the toe he had just set, then straightened it out.

Found out from one of his workers that was what he said to do to all alignments.

Sounds good, I'll take it somewhere to have it looked at that isn't just a tire and alignment shop
