I have a 1000 lbs truck camper in the back of a 2015 RAM 1500. I would like to upgrade the stock rear suspension to get rid of the sag and porpoising on the highway. I think I will opt for the TufTruck TTC-1223 (non V or VT) and Bilstein B8 5100 shocks (part # 24-187374). Could I please have some help with the following:

1. Will the 1223 springs be compatible with these Bilstein shocks or will the shocks will be over-extended when the truck is empty?
2. How poor will the ride-quality be with the TTC-1223 springs when the bed is empty? This is rare but does happen occasionally.
3. Has anyone installed the 1223's, regretted it when driving with an empty bed, then swapped them out for the 1211's? I'm trying to avoid the variable springs (V and VT) due to slightly mixed reviews on durability, however I am happy to be convinced otherwise.

I have the 1211. After driving around the springs wore in and the rear ended up sitting about 3/4 lover than the stock springs. They did carry weight much better than the stock springs. Here’s about 1000lbs of weight with 1211.

I’ve now added a small spacer so I’m not close to the bump stops with the quad and trailer.

I’ll dig out some more loaded pics when I find them.

Thanks for sharing your experience. How much weight did you have in the back, fully loaded, with a 3/4" drop below OEM springs? Do you wish you had opted for the 1223 springs?

Have you considered air bags? It's what I did with my 2015 1500, and worked perfectly to get rid of the sagging when towing.

I used to have Air Lift on a previous truck with leaf springs (as opposed to coils on the 1500). I cannot remember the model line but I had to RMA those bags twice over a 5 year period. Nonetheless, I am open to trying air bags again - maybe I'll have better luck this time. However, their cost is fairly similar to that of new coils and struts, which at 10 years old could do with being replaced anyway and comes with zero maintenance. In my scenario, would you still opt for air bags?

I’d have to say that’s probably personal preference, but the bags made my towing experience 100% more “enjoyable”. I didn’t change the coils when I added the bags, and I’d think the bags would offer more sway control with cornering and such when you have around 1k pounds in the bed.

No. 1223 would be too stiff and annoying when unloaded and for how I use the truck, 1211 is good. The 1-1/2” spacers solved the problem.

Airlift 5000 is the answer in my opinion.

I leveled my power wagon and when towing it looked like ****, so tossed airlift bags under it. They have worked flawless for the last 9+ years, never had an issue yet. And they have been abused a bit.

I prefer my trucks be fairly level when unloaded (just a slight rake), which is an issue for towing. The bags take car of that and give me the best of both worlds.

I did red airlifts in stock springs, 1 split the first winter and was warrantied.

They worked great but I did not like that it was one more thing that could fail.

Went with the 1223v springs and have been happy since BUT I do not tow/haul heavy often.
I have loaded them heavy (via the bed) and they work fantastic for my needs.

I towed a 37' Baja boat for a friend across town (past the trucks capacity) and it did OK, but you knew it was heavy.

I am running the Fox 2.0 rear shock, they ride great but are not meant for towing heavy in my experience

If you don't have a load in the bed at all times, I would recommend some air bags. Specifically Timbergrove bags, I've had them on my truck for 5 years now and they have been fantastic. If I have a heavy load in the bed or I'm towing my camper, I pump them up and any sag is gone. And you can adjust them for the specific load you have. When towning my camper I keep about 48psi in them. I have had more in them with a heavy load in the bed. The rest of the time I keep about 10psi in theme and the ride is completely stock.

They're not cheap, but the brackets and hardware are stainless steel and they can handle a lot of weight.

Not saying you shouldn't go with springs, just throwing out another option.

This is the only "bag" set up I would run if I needed to tow heavy.

Thanks for the replies all. I have an AirLift 5000 Ultimate kit (# 88365) with the internal bump stop on the way. I've also bought an old stock Wireless One v1 (# 25870) for an absolute bargain price. It's brand new, but has been sat in storage for over a decade. Hopefully it still works and any internal seals haven't perished in that time. It was worth the risk for the low price.

Great kit right there, mines been treating me well for a decade now.

Dangit ive always wanted the wireless air compressor setup but its never been worth the cost to me for how little i air the bags up. I would definitely go the route you did if i had the chance. Where did you find that deal?!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to these arriving. Did you use the included self-tapping bolts to install the brackets? I'm wondering whether rivnuts may be more reliable.

I picked up the kit on eBay from a private seller. The packaging is immaculate and everything is still factory sealed. However the manufacturing date is January 2014 o_O.

I have them on my power wagon, so i used daystar cradles for the axle mount instead of the supplied hardware to mount them to the axle.
