Curious if anyone has swapped their 12” screen for the 8.4” screen and what needed to be done for wiring and programming.
Thanks.
Thanks.

There were no 12 inch screens prior to the 2019 model year so the OP is asking about a 5th gen.Physically, you would of course need to get a radio, a different bezel, the climate control nobs and buttons, plus a harness that I am not exists of you have a 12 inch currently. Your signature line shows a 2016, is that the vehicle you are looking to convert from 12 inch to 8.4? If so, and if you didn't cut any wires you can get a harness that is readily available. But I am not sure if that is the correct vehicle for your questions.
Thank you. And for everyone else, yes I have a 2021 1500 now. No longer the 2016.You would want to get a disassociated 8.4 screen and bezel, so easiest way to do it is grab one off ebay complete, look for the glossy black middle stack with a screen still attached with all the buttons. Match the buttons to what features you have. The gloss black bezel center stack is the navigation version 8.4 and only came with a disassociated screen so that's the one you want then all the wiring is one for one match plug and play. its easy to convert just like it is to go the 8 to 12 route, just do in reverse. Some programming will be required but not much.
you reuse your current radio module and wiring. just stick to 19-21 and 22-24 ranges depending on what year you have. and if 1500 or HD stick within.
Yeah, kind of thought the OP had a newer truck. But didn't want to assume 100%, never know what people will do to their vehicle. There were no 12 inch screens prior to the 2019 model year so the OP is asking about a 5th gen.
Not really. The 8-way connector that is plugged into the 12” screen needs an adapter harness that turns it into two of those 8-way connectors. One that plugs into the 8.4 screen, and one that plugs into the back of the physical HVAC controls.then all the wiring is one for one match plug and play.
