Uconnect and battery kill switch

I am thinking about adding a remote battery kill switch
Does anyone know if it will negatively affect the Uconnect

I would not recomend installing a battery kill switch, it will cause all of your systems to lose their adaptive learning. Not good. If you are concerned with the battery losing charge from sitting, use a battery maintainer.

I was going to do this as a theft deterrent. I have looked at other options and really haven't found anything I really like.

To deter theft, kill the power going to the fuel pump after it leaves the APD (fuse box).
Another thing you could interrupt the power going to the starter solenoid, this would be the recommended for diesel trucks.

It won't hurt your uconnect but it will affect your driving experience, especially on higher trim levels. After disconnecting the battery it can take a few hours for all of the systems to recover. I had all kinds of lights and warnings immediately after reconnecting the battery on our 2020 Limited. I didn't need to use it right away, and I'd heard that can happen. After sitting overnight everything was back to normal. I wouldn't want to go through that on a daily basis.

To be NHRA legal my truck has 2 master disconnect switches,it's a fully loaded 2014 Sport and i've never had any issues with killing the power on it.One switch is in the back bumper and shuts the truck down when it's running to pass tech at the local track,the other switch is on the side of the battery box,and kills everything on the truck.My wifes 1320 Challenger will take upwards of an hour to have the drag pages come back on it,when i disconnect the battery,but the radio on it,always comes back instantly.

Wire in a kill switch to your fuel pump circuit, can split the fuse right in the fuse panel and wire it back to the switch. Make sure to use an inline fuse as you will be removing the fuse in the panel.

You're comparing a 4th gen to a 5th gen. I never had any issues with disconnecting the battery on the "fully loaded" 2017 Rebel I used to own. Everything came back as soon as I reconnected the battery. 5th gens are a different animal, and some of the systems don't come back right away.

I covered that with the comment about the drag pages on my wifes Challenger,but all systems on the 5th Gens do come back after an hour or 2,they're never totally gone.
To help prevent theft he can add a battery disconnect if he so wants,but some of the trucks radio functions will take a bit to return.Which would you rather have a stolen truck,or a couple functions that take an hour to come back.

Id do the same as I did on my Superduty and now on the RAM, pull a relay or fuse and put it in your pocket. Killing the batts will reset the transmission learn strategies which may be undesirable if you're use to its learned driving characteristics.

In the 2020 Laramie I owned, everything came back as soon as I reconnected the battery. In the 2021 Limited I had, as well as the wife's 2020 Limited, it takes more than "an hour or 2" for everything to come back. But for the sake of argument, even if everything comes back in an hour or two (which is incorrect), who would wait for that amount of time before driving it in a daily driver?

It's not one or the other. I can keep my batteries connected and not have a stolen truck. There are lots of other options for theft deterrence, many of which have been suggested earlier in this thread.

Yea i'm not to inclined to agree with you on the everything coming back time frame,we changed the battery in my neighbours 2022 a month or so ago,and with-in 2 hours everything was back,and it probably was back with-in an hour,but i told him to wait 2 hours before he used the truck,and he had all his functions back when he started it 2 hours later.
If they want it bad enough,there's not much you can do to prevent it from being stolen,other then taking all 4 tires off and chaining it to the ground,lol. His easiest detertent is to wire in a kill switch on the ignition,but all any switch is going to do is slow up the joyrider style thief,to where they might move on,it won't stop the dedicated thief who shows up with a tow truck or rollaway.
You cut the same wire on the trucks as you do the cars,but don't use a lighted switch,as they don't work for some reason,learned that one on the first kill switch i did a few years back.

When you're wrong ,i'm definitely going to disagree with you . If it took your truck more then 2 hours to have everything return,there's something wrong with your truck,and i think you should look into it,but i'm guessing there's nothing wrong with your truck,except the fact you have never actually timed how long it takes for the computor to reset

You really don't want to cut power completely with a cutoff switch for all the reasons mentioned above like resetting every computer in the truck and the adaptive learning that goes on while driving. If theft deterrent is the goal, buy an aftermarket security system that kills the ignition with a cutoff relay or similar. There are may theft deterrent systems that will accomplish what you want. These systems also have other benefits that come along for the ride like an alarm horn, Tamper warnings, remote start, etc.

I had an old Ford van that I put a push button momentary switch inline with the activation wire going to the starter. I mounted the switch under the carpet and would step on it as I turn the key. This became natural and I did not have to remember to turn a switch to turn off in the case of fuel or ignition cutoff. The van was an automatic and this may not work on a manual (not enough feet).

I had issues when the "battery" (Duralast AGM went dead in driveway). After forcing a charge on it, got it started, went to Autozone, got New Battery and went to RAM Stealership next day. Anyway, after they checked all: turns out you Have to clear the memory out of battery minder sensor (FYI: FRIGGIN IBS likes integrates with 4 other modules, all stuff talks and effects all other modules), or all info stored in the system is on old battery, so per mechanic pulled the negative cable off of the sensor, and let sit 10 hours. Wired back on, and I had about 1/2 of systems. Took a couple of drive incidents to get all back. Like 1st time I went to use Cruise, said not available, but all eventually came back. Dealership did flash "5" out of date software upgrades, which then gave me "2" issues which have star cases, U cannot win, LOL.
