I posted this question on another forum but not getting any feedback. I think RamForum has more activity so I will try here also.

Mainly I just listen to my music or podcasts but I do like technology and the 12" screen, especially the split screen capability. My main hesitation about the 12" though is that I have seen lots of posts and videos since it came out where it became buggy or stopped working in various ways. It seems that maybe the 8.4" is more stable? I definitely believe the 12" is a worthwhile upgrade for me and if something happens to it I am not concerned about temporarily losing music and podcasts until fixed. But I want to know what else would be lost?

My biggest concern is that if the screen or device itself crashes, I will not have access to many other features of the truck. I have learned there are some functions that are controlled though the touch screen of the 12" but that have hard buttons if you get the 8.4". I don't find all of what those are though. I know around the edge of the 12" unit there are some button climate controls. But it appears there are many functions that are only available through the 12" screen. If the screen is not working, I think I would lose all of those functions until the UConnect unit gets fixed or replaced. I am trying to figure out exactly which functions would be lost in this scenario? Or, at least what important functions. I think heated and ventilated seats would be gone or stuck in whatever the setting was when the unit crashed but not if the 8.4" unit went out? What other settings and functions would I lose if the 12" screen was out but would not be impacted if the 8.4" unit crashed? I have watched a bunch of videos on using the 12" and they touch on a lot of the items available via the touch screen, but never actually say which ones are not available any other way or which ones are different than the smaller unit.

Thanks for any corrections, experience or advice on deciding!

I have 2018 2500 mine has started to crash from time to time as well. It will kick on then turn off and looks like it is trying to reset itself. I just had the truck into oil change a month back. Seems odd this is happening.

What I am looking for is what important functions do you lose when this happens? I know from research that the 12" unit does conk out from time to time. Sometimes temporarily like you describe, for others it has been a complete failure and does not come back on. My concern and question is trying to find out what else is gone in the truck while the 12" screen is not usable?

Thanks - at this point I am going to continue to watch it and see how it goes. the problem i have had with issues like this and going to the dealer is that if it is working fine when I bring it in they will just say it is working fine. So it is a wasted trip.
