After doing some research, i was trying to see if pulling a 2018 ram 1500 8.4 uconnect radio and putting it in my 2017 ram is a simple plug and play. I am trying to get carplay and trying to find the easiest way to do so and wanting to keep everything looking OEM. I know ill also have the get a new media hub as well.

If you already have an 8.4 radio it is plug and play. Just have to make sure it's the Panasonic UAQ or UAS radio and not a Harmon Kardon. Only thing you should have to upgrade is the USB hub. The 2017 and older don't work with Android Auto. If you don't have the 8.4 radio you'll have to change your bezel to one for 8.4 radio.

^^^ what he said, you'll need a new USB hub and wiring adapter harness.
You can find the harness here: https://www.m2mods4ram.com/4th-gen-ram-radio-upgrade
I have a UAQ in my '15. I also use an AAWireless module for wireless AndroidAuto, it supports wireless CarPlay now too.

Awesome thanks guys! I have the 8.4in screen already. Is there a way to tell which radio I have instead of taking out the radio? Sorry for all the questions

The pre-18 trucks had one of two 8.4 radios, the 8.4AN (RA4) had built in navigation and HD radio, and the 8.4A (RA3) which had neither but you could enable nav with a code.
Doesn't matter which one is in your truck now as either the UAS or UAQ will work. UAQ has built in navigation but your better off using AndroidAuto/CarPlay.
If you know the vehicle VIN which the radio is in(or pulled from) you can look up the build sheet:
(use all capital letters)

Yes - it's pretty much a straight swap. The only issue you "might" run into is with the roof, (puck) antenna. The 430N uses one antenna for both Sirius and GPS. I had to change mine on my 2010. If I remember correctly, your 2011 should have the later model that does both, but it's been so long ago I can't be positive.

I am looking to do the exact same upgrade, and I’m finding replacement LCD displays available on eBay Amazon, etc. for around $130. Is the display unit the only new component that I need for the radio upgrade? Or Does the radio consist of more than just the display? (I will also update the USB). If the display is the only thing I need, then does anyone have experience with the aftermarket models available on Amazon? Are they comparable to the OEM displays? Thanks for any help here.

Not trying to hijack, but how hard would it be to put in the 12" screen on a 2018 with the 8.4 uconnect?
