I was just wondering something...

I positively love that I can plug in my phone and the uConnect system picks it up, allowing me to play my own music w/o touching the phone to do it (doubly so since Oregon has a very nasty distracted-driving law concerning anything you do with a smartphone.)

Now - instead of plugging in the phone, what if I got a USB stick and packed it full of tunes? Would that actually work? (I never tried... I may indeed have to, but I wanted to know if anyone else has tried it.)

Yes you can play music off of a USB memory stick. It is easy to knock it out of the port so I switched the music to a SD card.

I hadn't noticed an SD card slot (2017, uConnect 3.0 I think?)... will def. grab a big ol' stick and pack it up, though.

Just adding to the chorus of hell yeahs.

I've got tunes on an USB stick that I keep plugged in.

Navigating the songs kind of sucks but high quality files sound great from an SD card.

No SD slot on the newer trucks. I am not sure when they dropped them but my 2017 does not have one. USB stick works great but the volume is lower for that as opposed to sat radio. You have to turn it up for USB and turn it back down before selecting another source. Otherwise you will put the truck in park when you go back to Sirius.

I don't worry about navigating song selection with the USB. I just pick songs I like when I load it and use shuffle to vary the selection.

You can adjust this on your computer. The higher the bit rate the better the sound. Most MP3s are ripped at a 128kbps. When I convert my CDs (you know those little round metallic looking things [emoji5]) to MP3, I RIP them at 320kbps. This takes up more space but the sound quality and level is much better. Most conversion software can also manage sound levels for the files.
I personally not a big fan of MP3s but since my truck does not have a CD player, they are my only option. New head unit is in the near future.

I have not seen a SD card slot on my '18 Express. Maybe a Mini-SD slot I am not seeing yet. I'll look some more.

If you are afraid of breaking your USB off I used the following.

When you copy music from CD to USB stick, is there any specific format you have to use or does the windows player app use the right one automatically.

I've got a 32GB hard drive in my system, but I would really like to upload by song and not by disk to avoid all the "B" side ash and trash.

They're located inside the center console in the front portion on the right side. There's 2 of them you'll want to use the one on the left of the 2

Won't really matter in this case - USB 3 rated geek sticks are backwards-compatible
