looking for a used or rebuilt engine for my 2014 ram 1500 express classic anyone have any recommendations as to the best place to look. some of the places/sites I looked have mixed reviews. Though they have decent descent warranties some of the reviews are questionable.

The rebuilt engines have a reputation such that I would avoid them, unless you rebuild it yourself. The brand new, Mopar non-MDS long block from Modern Muscle Extreme or Brian Tooley Racing, is priced close enough to the reman units to make the question more of a question of New vs Used.

I'd go new, Mopar non-mds, unless you can find a good deal on a low mileage used engine.

what is wrong with your current engine? these are very easy engines to repair often cheaper to fix. What is the mileage on the truck? You can try junk yards for a used one just look for the lowest milage engine here is the site that linkes all yards together

it's a 5.7 v8 with 172543 miles on it I bought it used and the car fax is just on the maintenance and not how one drove the vehicle The mechanic said the one of the rings slipped a little bit in the piston area. Now that was one mechanic, and he said after a rebuild kit and labor cost it would be about the price to get a reman one an thank you for the info I will check it out

I can highly recommend AK_trucks_pa in Marcus Hook PA.
It’s Quick_Shifter’s shop, a member on this forum, and the only mechanic I trust with my truck.
I live in VA, about 2 1/2 hours away, posted this many times but I would happily drive twice as far to get to his shop.

Can someone enlighten me? Been working on engines for 60 years and "slipped a ring" is a new one to me.

LOL
exactly Lol for some reason PA has some of the worst mechanics when it comes to ripping people off I think it stems from the vehicle inspection situation over there just my opinion.

I think the shop is trying slip their hands into your wallet, lol.

Run
There is your correct answer, you may have a broken ring, But who knows, a compression test may show something.
I have no clue what your code is for and never looked it up.

You can google the code and see what it comes out to, and it is doesn't show a slipped piston ring. I would find a different shop to look at at, or bite the bullet and take it to the dealer, and stay far away from that mechanic. Below is what google says for your code.

The P2098 code indicates the powertrain control module detects a "too lean" fuel mixture on Bank 2 (passenger side on V6/V8 engines) downstream of the catalytic converter. This often indicates an exhaust leak near the rear O2 sensor, or a faulty downstream oxygen sensor/catalytic converter.
